“another stay in this great hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2013

Another short trip to Padstow and a stay in our favourite hotel, triggered by the £59 B&B offer....too good to miss.

I did ask for our favourite room on the gound floor but sad to say it wasn't available so had to climb to the 2nd floor...but we are still fit enough to manage that! Omly one lift which takes an age to arrive...but this is a unique friendly hotel...not a typical brand name hotel.

As ever the staff are excllent from arrival to departure......all are genuinely friendly and happy to help with a sincere smile.

Love the place and will go again...hopefully we will get our favourite room netx time!

We have previously stayed at other Richardson hotels and enjoyed them, so we thought a trip to their Padstow hotel would be good. The hotel is in an amazing position and is a 5 minute walk into the town. We upgraded to a sea view room which was worth the money, we originally were booked into one overlooking the car park. The hotel is dog friendly and our lovely placid lab enjoyed sitting in the lounge areas. The classics offer gives you a 3 course meal in the evening as well as b&b, the food was excellent and the view from the restaurant breathtaking. All of the staff were friendly and courteous, I feel another trip to Padstow later in the year will be happening!

We stayed last night as one couple of a party of 20 Rotarians after a day's treasure hunt. Haven't set foot in here for over 35 years! We were very impressed with everything. We were in room 19 (which was much maligned by a reviewer from August 12) For a standard room it was huge! No view, but we didn't spend much daytime in there so that mattered not a jot. It was spotlessly clean, lashings of hot water for the bath, the shower cubicle was a little small perhaps but spotless. Comfortable 6' bed. The hospitality tray was stocked with plenty of high quality products. Only fault I could find was the toilet roll holder which was loose. The dinner was excellent, service a little slow but they had 40 extra to cope with. The staff were all excellent, very friendly, polite and helpful. The bar prices were exorbitant, but that is normal for this standard of hotel.

Room Tip: Personally we had no problem with room 19. On the first floor so very handy, but no view.

We have holidayed in Padstow on many occasions and enjoy the location with its working harbour, easy walks, golden sands, Chough's pasties and an excellent choice of restaurants but had not stayed at the Metropole previously.
A chance internet search found an excellent price for an overnight stay at this 4 star hotel. It has a good position with glorious views even on a winter day, parking and is only a short step into the centre of the town.
What we found so impressive was the quality of the staff. The receptionist was efficient and welcoming in a way that managed to be professional and pleasantly friendly. The breakfast team were a joy, again displaying efficiency with charm and good cheer. A chance encounter with one of the housekeeping staff was notable because again her comment left you with the feeling that your visit was important.
We didn't have an evening meal but if the service and quality of the food matched that served at breakfast we would on a future visit. However given that the breakfast left you pleasantly full for most of the day and the high tea looks a "must have" you would certainly need more than one day to try the culinary delights.

I didn't stay overnight as me and my partner live only a few miles away. We had previously eaten here at a staff party and it was great so we thought we would try it again.I found the staff too be really friendly and the food was really well presented and tasted great. Now I'm a big eater and at first I thought the portions looked a little small but by the time I got to the coffee I was stuffed. I would recommend the metropole hotel to anyone.

Very pleasant two night stay. Clean and comfortable with very friendly staff.  Perfectly placed overlooking the estuary and an excellent restaurant. The hotel is only a hundred yards or so from the town centre and harbour.

Firstly I'd best explain that I'm writing this from the male perspective, so.......We decided to meet up with friends between Christmas and New Year and they were staying in nearby Port Isaac so our booking was made fairly late. We chose the Metropole because it seemed to offer what we were looking for, decent sized room, decent breakfast AND parking. We weren't disappointed. Firstly the booking experience was good. We had checked around some of the various sites offering to find hotels and, as usual we ended up speaking to someone at the hotel as this first contact can often give a welcome insight into the place. The young lady we spoke to couldn't have been more helpful if she'd tried! We specifically wanted a room with a view and there seemed to be a choice of several available at that time. Not content with simply booking us into any one of them, she then took our details and went off to check. A short while later she called back and had sorted out what she considered to be the best of those available. Now, you could obviously say that that was just a bit of old sales banter and that she probably didn't even move from her desk. However, having now stayed there and come into contact with the staff I'm pretty convinced that she would have gone to that trouble. In fact I have to say that all of the staff seem to want to make sure you are completely happy. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but it was very good and the view from the dining area was excellent. The other reason we chose the Metropole was because we have stayed at one of the Richardson hotels in Foy. Both were a delight to stay in. I suppose I could say that parts of the hotel are in need of a bit of an upgrade but having stayed in a variety of hotels over the years I think it fair to say that, for us, the fact that there's a lovely atmosphere and REAL service is more than a fair trade off for shiny new bits! As far as Padstow itself is concerned, we enjoyed our few days wandering around and I even have to admit to enjoying a short stint of shopping (I'm a bit of a"bloke" when it comes to shopping!). The pubs we went in were lovely and served good real ale. We ate in a variety of places and the food was all good. We also tried Rick's fish and chips and they were very nice but as far as we're concerned the jury is still out on the value for money aspect! Having said that, there is no doubt that Rick Stein has brought a lot of trade to the place and I take my hat off to him for that. We enjoyed some lovely walks around the area and would certainly go back, both to the hotel and Padstow itself. Mind you, because of the time of year the place was not over busy, whether we'd go back during the summer is another matter! We think the entire area is lovely and plan another trip when it's a BIT warmer, this time on a motorbike.

Room Tip: Estuary view is lovely, speak to them and explain what you want........always the best way!
