This is a really lovely hotel. The staff are on the ball and work with you to ensure you have a great time there. The dining room is wonderful, good atmosphere, food that reflects the area with sensitive and delicate flavours, brilliant ambience and views that are beautiful. Rooms well equipped, clean and comfortable. Holiday atmosphere and sophistication rolled into one. We go there as often as we can and just relax.

Room Tip: Room 29. Has a balcony and sea views.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and for the first time ever we had a few problems with the room. We told reception and within 30 minutes the maintenance man had rectified the problems and we were given a complementary bottle of wine. The food as always was brilliant and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I don't know whether our stay clashed with a SAGA bank holiday offer but most of the guests were over 70. There seemed to be a big gap between the old and the younger families here. The hotel service is good and the staff were great with our 6 year old. I think most older guests were on half board as restaurant not a comfortable atmosphere for a young family, even with a well behaved little girl. In fact some of the older/harder hearing people were louder but it didn't stop the glares from some. One night dining in was enough for us. Besides there is so much choice elsewhere. Rooms were comfortable if a little old fashioned in decor. Don't think it's necessarily tired it's just that I think the taste caters for an older clientele, particularly the lounge areas. Felt like a nursing home. It's 5 minutes from the harbour area so the location is hard to beat, without getting too noisy. Views can't be beaten. Overall if you're needing a great central base then I can recommend this hotel but not if you've got noisy kids you don't want to gag all of the time!

Cornwall has some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole of England. Padstow itself is a bustling town on the Estuary of the river Camel.
The hotel is in a superb position and only a 2 min walk from Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant.
The Hotel staff were excellent and the prices were mostly reasonable.
The food was of a high standard with a good wine list.
Room 26 has a double aspect with a balcony but is a little on the small side as is the bathroom.

Warm greeting from reception started off our stay on the right foot. We were lucky enough to enjoy a lovely harbour view room however was a little on the small side compared to others. Bed was comfortable and bathroom with bath had good shower pressure.
Internet was very poor and frustrating from our second floor room, ended up using it in the lounge area.
Service for breakfast was poor, had to help ourselves to a menu just to order. They appeared to have enough staff on however they were not productive in clearing and resetting tables to ensure availability for patrons.
Don't feel overall the stay was value for money.
Great location and parking on site, just didn't deliver the experience we expected.

Dear jo_porter,
Thank you for your review but my apologies that your stay didn’t deliver to your expectations.

I am pleased to read that you had a warm welcome from our reception team and you enjoyed a comfortable harbour view room but I am just sorry for your experience at breakfast. I can only assure you this was not up to our usual standard. Our service, especially in the restaurant is always praised, as you may read from other reviews that have been posted so I apologise this wasn’t the case on this occasion.

Should you wish to discuss anything further then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks

Melissa Harris

Stayed here on Saturday 17th May 2014 room 22. My wife treated me to this "one nighter" for my 67th birthday and I'm very pleased she did! Firstly the central booking was extremely efficient and helpfull and did us a good price on a standard sea view room with dinner, bed, and breakfast for £174.00. The room was delightful, view excellent and even left us a 'free' bottle of wine. We ate in the Harbour Restaurant which was an excellent experience, and this (of course) overlooks the harbour. Both food and wine plus service were second to none. Breakfast was just as good and all in all this hotel is just superb. The only flaw is the bar area which is 'drab' and lacks character. Staff are a credit to the company and I hope are rewarded. Highspot at teatime was the owner (Mr Richardson) arriving by helicopter and landing in full view in the delightful gardens.
Well worth a visit. Have rebooked for our Anniversary in June so must be good.

Room Tip: Try not to miss out on a sea view room, but I'm sure all the rooms are very good.

Dear Rod W,

Many thanks for your lovely review and a belated Happy Birthday to you!

I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for spending your birthday here.

I’m delighted you were so looked after and I can’t agree with you more, the staff really are a credit to us.

Thank you for comments about the bar, we did redecorate last year to try and brighten it up but there are plans to do more this winter as it would be lovely to open it up and make it brighter and more welcoming.

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Kindest regards

Melissa Harris

We have just returned from a short stay at the Metropole in Padstow - our party included an elderly lady and a young puppy dog! The hotel is situated in the most perfect position sitting just above the harbour and boosts fantastic views of the Camel estuary. The staff are very very helpful - nothing is too much trouble! The food is first class and whilst some of the rooms are a little tired I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others! First class!
