My wife and I spent a few days in Padstow in June this year. we decided to eat in Rick Steins three restaurants. We went to the Cafe the first night and were a bit dissapointed with our meala nd the place. I know it is a Cafe but the tables were on top of each other, not far from touching arms. Maitre'D was very helpful. We had Hake and Rib Eye for mains, Hake was very good but steak seemed to be too fresh, bit tough and grizzly. Vegatables were average. We did not let it put us off our expectations for the next two.

Nice little café tucked back from the harbour front which serves good food at reasonable prices.

Not a flashy as the Bistro or Seafood Restaurant but fantastic for a light informal lunch.

The steak sandwich was very nice as was the lightly curried crab

Excellent service and food, lovely contemporary art, sophisticated but not overly formal. We chose dishes with a difference: stingray for example!

We booked for a Saturday evening some days ahead to have a 'Rick Stein experience'. Hake and Place Goujons were both good but for us the vegetables were a little underdone. What ruined the meal was the service of solid, inedible potatoes, a mistake which seemed inexplicable in a good kitchen. The cold berries in a hot chocolate sauce was also a memorable dessert but unfortunately when we now enjoy watching Rick's programmes on TV, hard spuds will come to mind.
