“Great find in an unexpected place”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

The Railway was recommended to us by friends and did not disappoint. Brilliant food, dog friendly in the bar area and great service. A shade under £80 for four courses for two people with plenty of booze is not unreasonable. Pleasingly for a gastropub they had decent beer on tap. A must visit if you're in the area.

“A Fantastic Lunch”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 via mobile

Popped in for lunch, greeted with a very warm welcome, and very friendly staff. Both my husband and I had Pizzas which were absolutely delicious.
Wine chilled to perfection, and a really good cappuccino to finish. Sadly no room for dessert.
So impressed, have already booked for an evening meal.

“Quirky but great food!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Doesn't sound very promising "The Railway".We have all seen taverns of a similar name dotted around the country in close proximity to a railway station, and most of us have avoided them like the plague!
However people this is a bit different. To start with the decor can only be described as unusual and quirky. What other eating place will you find a bunch of twigs in the corner so you can flagellate the chef if his performance falls below exceptional!
The menu is interesting and unusual, and offers a wide choice of dishes.
My partner chose a pizza which she said was very good, and I chose the venison meatballs which I might say, with the sauce and herbs that were included, were tasty and satisfying.
The service was speedy and helpful.
We will be returning to further explore the options this hostelry provides.

“Recommended!”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

We had the Lyme bay mussels with monkfish tails and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS.

The owner is a really nice guy who gave a warm, friendly welcome without being too familiar.

Lovely place for a meal, or just a drink.

We'll be back!
