Description: The historic Yarcombe Inn is a Grade II Listed Building situated on the A30 in East Devon, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Closed for over a year, it was rescued and run for over 3 years by a small but dedicated group of local people who re-awoke this wonderful old coaching inn, once more making it the heart and soul of the village. The award-winning Inn, which reverted back to private management in March 2013, is set in the beautiful village of Yarcombe nestling on the edge of the Blackdown Hills, and dates back almost a thousand years. It is said to have once belonged to the monks from Mont St Michel in France, and along with the rest of Yarcombe was later owned by Sir Francis Drake.

“What a surprise!”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

We were staying at The Belfry across the road and thought we'd give this a go...we were shocked(in a good way!) and surprised. The food was fantastic,Michelin quality- obviously cooked by someone who knows exactly what he's doing...hurry up and go there!
The pub is very friendly and the beer was good...but the food was astonishing...thankyou for an incredible meal;we LOVED it!!!

“Good food”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

Popped in here today for a quick lunch...menu was quite expensive - baguette and chips nearly a tenner, but we decided to stay and give it a go. We both went for the ham egg and chips and it was lovely. Not the norm..... it was pressed ham hock with a duck egg and some really lovely big chunky chips. The chef seemed quite switched on and was chatting about the food and some menu changes. I originally thought the food was expensive but it was good, and I imagine that whatever the chef serves is top quality and well cooked. Would definitely go here again for lunch if I was passing.

Thanks for your review of last year when we were a community-run pub and we're glad you enjoyed your meal. There have been many improvements to the bar and restaurant and we have also introduced a B&B facility since then. Hope to see you again soon!

“A Real Village Pub”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

The Yarcombe Inn, as the placard says "is under new management by the community". Stopped by the community from closing and now run by local volunteers, this is hopefully a way forward for communities to take their future into their own hands.

Tuesday night was lively with a regular in/out flow of "local" drinkers, a skittles game in the upstairs room, and a variety of people dining. We went for a meal and were delighted by the quality of the food on offer, the welcome by the bar staff to "outsiders" and the very attractive look of the pub. On the whole a great evening.

We couldn't help but wonder how the dynamic of running a pub by committee (an assumption on our part that could easily be wrong) would have in the future. It would be worth coming back in the future to see how this experiment has progressed and hopefully succeeded.

Thankyou very much for your review of last year when we were a community-run pub (until March 2013). There have been many improvements to the bar and restaurant since then and we are also now offering B&B. An important point to note is that the Chef is the same, so the standard of food remains first class. (We are currently rated no 1 Restaurant in the Honiton Area thanks to reviews llike yours, so thanks again.)
