“Stunning 5 star lodge in wonderful rural setting”
Reviewed 28 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our 6 family members ages, 6,9,43,50,78,82 had a wonderful time at gamekeepers lodge. The kids and the grandparents slept upstairs in very comfortable beds whilst myself and the wife enjoyed complete privacy downstairs in a fantastic, cosy and very comfortable super king bed. The lovely open plan arrangement downstairs allowed us to laze in bed watching Tv, enjoying the jacuzzi and log fire whilst the kids and grandparents had gone to bed.

The grounds at the farm roll down to the river Avon and the beautiful small hamlet of Topsham bridge, where some friendly neighbours live with their children who were quick to befriend our kids and soon they were all off exploring the river and woods. There are fabulous walks right on your doorstep here and the views from the balcony down to the river are wonderful indeed. Chris the manager assisted us throughout our stay and even lit the fire and bought logs on a daily basis.

Beaches at Bantham, Thurlestone and Salcombe are less than 20 minutes away so to cut a long story short we all had a lovely relaxing family week at Gamekeepers and would love to return in summer.

“Total wind-down in a stunning location”
Reviewed 2 January 2013 for a stay in December 2012

We booked Game Keepers for Christmas and New Year. Our adult son was joining us for Christmas and friends for New Year.

It's a lovely house, well furnished and thoughtfully warm for our arrival. Logs were available without extra charge. Despite the heavy rain, we managed to have some lovely walks around the farm as well as getting out to the local beaches. The beds were comfortable, towels fluffy and water hot but, be aware that this isn't a three bedroomed house it's a two bedroomed house. The "third" bedroom is actually a king sized bed in the sitting room which is rather strange. It's not hidden behind a screen or pushed against a wall in a corner, but proudly sitting with its headboard against the wall opposite the lovely folding glass doors with two very comfortable sofas, a large leather armchair, the tv and a wood burning stove. It didn't really matter for us as most of the time we were on our own, but you may need to think your sleeping arrangements through. The lovely Charlie described it as "open plan" ....

Don't let it stop you though, it's a lovely property with lots or little to occupy your time depending on what kind of holiday you want.

“If you want to get away from it all; this is the place!”
Reviewed 5 December 2012 for a stay in June 2012

The Gamekeepers cottage was a real find! It is located on a small private estate where you essentially have about 145 acres to yourself. The river Avon runs past the cottage about 200 yards away, and there is a stream that runs through the front garden. You can hear the stream from the balcony! The cottage itself is very well furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen and wood stoves with lots of wood to burn if it gets a bit chilly. Chris, the owner, invited us into the 12th century farmhouse for a cup of hot chocolate in front of a roaring log fire. He also showed me arround his library and offered to lend me any books I wanted. Steve, the caretaker was great, and popped in every day to see if we needed anything. If you want to take a break away from the maddening crowd,; this is the place!

“Beautiful modern and atmospheric accommodation, in the most gorgeous part of Devon”
Reviewed 11 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Gamekeepers is in a lovely part of Devon, a quiet green valley, on a huge estate. The children loved the gamesroom, and the wide spaces. We loved the views, and the woodburner. Our friend stayed in nearby Little Fishes on the same estate, so that we could meet up for meals, but still have some privacy, which worked really well. All the furnishings are top quality, and the sofas really comfortable. Finally, the proximity to Kingsbridge, Salcome, and the wonderful Bantham Bay makes this a really special place to stay. We will be back.

“A cosy and luxurious bolthole by the river”
Reviewed 30 October 2011 for a stay in October 2011

As soon as we arrived at Gamekeepers we given a warm welcome by Chris the farm manager and Charles the owner and his family. Chris showed us all the features of the lodge, including the woodburning stove which had been lit in time for the lodge to be lovely and cosy for our arrival.
The property was well furnished with plenty to keep the teenagers occupied, a big screen tv with full SKY package, wi-fi etc. and nice touches of luxury for the grown-ups including a big jacuzzi bath. The kitchen was well equipped (good when you have a discerning cook in the family!) and the upside-down nature of the lodge meant that the views from the dining table were superb.
The lodge nestles in the Avon valley - secluded enough to feel like it was really remote but actually only 10 minutes away from shops, with beaches and tourist spots like Salcombe and Totnes a little further. There are good walks straight from the front door and one of the main highlights was the fishing on the Avon.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the chance to explore a lovely part of Devon.
Chris and Charles and his family were very keen to ensure that we got the best out of our stay and gave us lots of useful inside info on places to visit.
