Having cycled across Dartmoor, the hostel was a welcome sight. We stayed in the bunk barn. Cooking facilities were basic but all available, same applies to shower and bunkroom. We didn't have any drying facilities, which was disappointing. However, it was a happy, interesting place and good value for money.

We hired the whole place for a hen party on Saturday night.
The place was perfect with a lovely big kitchen, ample room in the dorm style bedroom and a stunning little enclosed courtyard.
The owners were very friendly and not at all intrusive.
I would definitely recommend this place and would happily book to come back.

A beautiful little hostel sited within 5 minutes walk of several pubs and shops. Allison (the owner) is more than happy to accommodate any needs or desires- relaxed and happy to help. While we were there she gave another guest a lift into Exeter, just one example of her keenness to have happy guests. The house is clean and warm with cooking facilities and showers. Can't recommend enough would definitely stay again!

Sparrowhawk Backpackers is a great place to stop off in the village of Moretonhampstead. The bunks were really clean and comfortable, with excellent facilities. The outside courtyard is a great place to sit and chat. The owner was really friendly and made for a relaxed atmosphere. It is also great value for money. I can highly recommend Sparrowhawk and would DEFINITELY stay there again. 10 out of 10.

This is a very comfortable barn conversion with great showers, a big clean kitchen with all appliances, washing and drying facilities, a charming courtyard and a relaxed and friendly host. My friend and I stayed one night for a weekend of cycling around Dartmoor and the village could not be better placed for it. The bunkbeds in the one dorm (mixed, with partition curtains) were comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. The village has everything - a co-op, choice of pubs with food, butcher and baker - and still feels small and friendly.

Highly recommended to use as a base for cycling and it looked like it would be good for a larger group as the kitchen/communal space would be perfect for cooking together; the courtyard outside seats about a dozen around the tables, catches the sun for most of the day and blocks pretty much all wind, so another lovely place to relax.

On top of this being a lovely place, I left a pair of trousers behind and the owner kindly contacted me to arrange to return them.

A group of 14 of us hired the entire loft for a long weekend and stayed in the bunk beds. The hostel is lovely with a farm feel - a sunny private yard, big kitchen and 3 showers. The hostess is laid back and very friendly and made us right at home. There's a bbq and outdoor seating. Its in a great village centre location with lots of pubs nearby and gorgeous countryside on the doorstep. Had a fantastic weekend away and would go back if we wanted another weekend in this area.

I arrived at Sparrowhawk absolutely drenched after a long slog up the hill by bike, and received a warm greeting and found everything well kept and clean.

The large bunkhouse sits above a welcoming communal lounge/kitchen and is divided by curtains for a small amount of privacy, with bunks well spaced and lots of natural light from above. The sheets were fresh and clean and I had one of the best nights sleep in a long time.

Downstairs, there are boardgames, lots of information and maps of the local area, and the kitchen opens onto a courtyard which, on a fine morning, was lovely and sunny. At the back a secure bike shed is useful.

In the town three excellent pubs (the Union Inn has wifi and a very warm welcome), a well stocked co-op and a friendly tourist information centre. There is even a fish and chip shop if you're feeling too tired to cook.

Well worth the money, the owner should be very proud of Sparrowhawk. I'd return today if I didn't have to go to silly work.
