The LongHouse B&B
Reviewed 28 December 2013

I stayed here recently and highly recommend it. The couple that run it are friendly, the bed was comfortable. Most impressively, I left my cuff links in my room, and they posted them to me for free without my even having to ask. I was very impressed and highly recommend.

We arrived at the Longhouse late and exhausted , 2 muddy girls nearing the end of our JOGLE cycle and were lucky to find this gem of a B&B. Our room was cosy and clean with a large shared bathroom - a bargain at £55 for the 2 of us. Breakfast was magnificent with great choice of continental as well a cooked breakfast, in a beautiful dining room. The couple running the Long House were absolutely lovely and even stood out in the cold to wave us off in the morning! Accommodation wise this was the highlight of our 2 week trip.

We stayed 2 nights at The Longhouse and it was a really pleasant stay. The house itself was very cute and full of interesting objects, books, maps and pictures. Our room was clean and comfortable with nice little extras like coffee, tea and hot chocolate making facilities in the room. The breakfast was delicious. Loads of choice and even the offer of vegetarian sausages with the full english!!! The owners were very welcoming and friendly.

Would definitely recommend this B&B. It's a great place to stay especially for the very reasonable price!

In the heart of Moretonhampsted we enjoyed a modern room and facilities in a charming historic house, ideally located to explore this Dartmoor town. The Full Monty English breakfast is first class and sets you up for a day of exploring or walking. It was a joy to meet Lorely and Peter who made our stay easy and delightful. So unusual to find such interesting, helpful and friendly hosts.
We look forward to several more visits. John And Marcella: Newmarket, Suffolk

Room Tip: The rooms are equally good.

On route through the West Country we stopped over in Peter & Lorelys fine historic cottage. Easy to locate and set off the road accessible through its own passage we were transported into another time. Cosy bedroom and charming reception room full of local maps and interesting books on Dartmoor. Peter was a mine of information offering local walks right from the front door. In the garden we found a restful atmosphere. It gets the sun from the morning to the evening which is probably why the twisting Whisteria does so well nestling over the entrance gate. By the photos Peter showed us of the Winter its a great place all year around. Right from our first enquiries to the final goodbyes we felt very well looked after. We shall return.

We stayed at the Longhouse b&b for one night as we travelled across Dartmoor toward Cornwall.
Unfortunately we were quite disappointed. The Double Ensuite room was £60, and both the room and the bathroom were absolutely tiny. There was no lock on the outside of the door (though it could be locked from the inside).

The room and bathroom were clean, but we really felt it was lacking attention to detail - there were plastic flowers instead of real ones in a vase, they should have had nicer and darker curtains, biscuits should be provided with the tea making facilities in the room - for £60 we felt that such details paid attention.

The entrance to the b&b is absolutely awful - from the road it is very difficult to work out where it it, we spent a good 10-15 minutes searching for it. An old green and yellow sign is stuck on a wooden gate that leads through a narrow tunnel (from the road), when you come out the other side you reach the b&b. The cottage itself looks nice - however there was no attempt at making the entrance of the actual cottage, or the tunnel, or rickety metal gate into the garden pretty and inviting. When entering a b&b you realise that it is someone's home, but you are usually made to feel comfortable within a professional environment. This b&b unfortunately did not have that feeling. We very much felt like we were staying in the spare room of someone's house.

The breakfast was good, but nothing to get excited about. The couple seemed friendly enough, I'm not sure if perhaps they haven't been trading for very long? Maybe they are still working on getting their b&b up to scratch? I hope so as I don't like to be negative, but we really thought this was not worth £60. More like £40.

Good to be able to walk to nearby pubs and hotel. Was an ok stay but wouldn't stay again I'm afraid.
