Great friendly service with good food.

Had a couple of dineers there during our week in Lyme. The owner remembered us from a visit 2 years ago which is great customer service.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

I convinced my partner to grab some lunch here as we were both hungry and it was later in the afternoon.

The restaurant seemed quiet, but we put that down to it being about 2pm. Despite this, we were warned that there would be up to 20 minutes wait as "all the food is cooked fresh to order". We appreciated the warning, but wondered why this needed to be pointed out, as surely all the food should be cooked fresh anyway?!!

We ordered what we thought would be quick meals - flatbread, preserved tomatoes and houmous for my partner and mussels with bread for me. Bearing in mind the houmous would have been prepared in advance, mussels take all of five minutes to cook, and there were very few other people in there eating, our meals still took close to 40 minutes to arrive.

My mussels were beautiful, really nice. My partner's houmous was revolting. Clearly no-one had tasted it before serving it up, if they had they would have realised that it was just dire - no flavour at all. The tomatoes had clearly come from a jar, which isn't a problem in my world, but they too were slimy and tasteless.

I don't know if the usual chef was off sick or something, but the plethora of serving staff milling around perhaps should have been put to better use in the kitchen helping get the food up to scratch. It's a shame, because it had a lovely atmosphere, but waiting a very long time for disappointing food was a total letdown.

“A delightful experience”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

We visited for a family meal on Thursday of half term last week of May. Service was excellent, food delicious. The menu, whilst not extensive, had something for everyone and children were well catered for. A lovely ambience without being intimidating, we felt we had been for a grown up meal even with children involved. Prices are equivalent to gastro pubs in the south east so a little more than expected but well worth it. We would definitely return for another visit when we are in the area.

“Tucked away gastronomic delight”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We came and had an evening meal here on a Saturday night when we had a family birthday weekend in nr by Charmouth. The service was excellent, good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The starters were really tasty, I had a crab/lobster Linguini main which was honestly so lovely. I've eaten at some fabulous restaurants in Italy and this matches even that. The pudd we shared was fantastic, we walked out feeling full to the gunnells and very satisfied. Will definitely eat here again if we visit, it wasn't even that busy either on a Saturday night which is not an indictaion of the food by the way. They have fresh food on the specials board - everyone on the table had different mains and all were packed full of flavour & were very fresh. Go, you won't be disappointed.
