Having visited the Lyme Bay previously we have always liked the quirkiness of the restaurant, the relaxed atmosphere and lovely food. However, after the worst evening ever we would never return and would never recommend it.
One waitress behaved like an insolent teenager, rolling of the eyes and very poor people skills. The food was mediocre and one dish was inedible. The owner/head chef was rude and difficult and not remotely interested in the views customers. One staff member later apologised and said there had been 5 customer complaints that evening!

Walked in and requested a table as there seemed to be fairly decent atmosphere from the outside and we were starving. Staff were friendly when we walked in, although one was a bit frazzled and stressed out and didn't seem to know if they had room for us or not. A bit chaotic. Anyway, after much scraping of tables and chairs across the floor, we got seated. At this point, we were very tempted to change our minds and leave, the portents were not good - but we were so hungry.
Starter was the dish of the night, a slighty soggy bruschetta; we also had the odd sounding prawns with parma ham and amaretto. We had to try it, I never would have thought up that combination! Won't repeat the experience, flavours didn't work (but it was well cooked).
Then things went downhill. The mains. Both pastas, I had the marinara, my wife meatballs in tomato sauce. Well it was pretty hideous, especially the meatballs, very acidic and unpleasant. I never want to go through that again. Italian food should be so simple and fresh.
There were one or two complaints elsewhere, but we didn't want to get involved. We'd had a long day and wanted to have a stroll along the front, so we just paid up and left. When asked by the waitress if we had enjoyed our meal, we just said no. She didn't ask us to elaborate.
Such a shame. Some of the staff seemed quite jolly, it's a lovely looking building and in a great location. Should be a winner, but they need to get better organised and someone who is able to cook and take pride in their work.

The bill was around £70 for a family of four, and for that I'd expect to have some nice food. None of it was nice—it was all mediocre at best. The service was non-attentive and amateurish. I sent an email of complaint to the owner/manager with no reply. A poorly run business, I would not return. Looks nice inside though.

Even though it was a Thursday evening, we booked for dinner, and we needed to. Food was really tasty and there was something to suit all members of my (sometimes picky) family. There were trivial pursuit cards on the tables to help keep everyone entertained whilst waiting for out food. I think they were short staffed so it took a while to get drinks and place our order but, when it came, the food was delicious and worth the wait.

The food here was excellent and the young lady that served us was lovely and very attentive. Just strange that we were squirrelled away in the back when we could have been put in front to make it look busier plus we were put on a strange table layout. Cannot knock the food though really lovely
