“A taste of the past”

A must for every visitor to Lyme Regis. The cinema has been carefully restored and will remind many older visitors of their teenage trips to the cinema

“So much better than a multiplex!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

This gem is my local cinema - and I love it! It is a proper, cinema going experience with the style, décor and ambience, I would sooner keep this cinema than have a modern building with no soul. Tis listed building is special and the manager's passion for film and the building is evident.
We are so lucky to have it on our doorstep

“Excellent little independent cinema”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2013

We found this lovely little cinema as we explored on our first day of holiday in Lyme Regis. We much preferred it to any of the multiplexes. It was very reasonable and had lovely comfy seats. It was great to be able to walk from our little holiday flat to the cinema. A lovely evening - we can recommend it!

“How to destroy an opera in one go”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

My wife bought tickets for us to watch the film of Der Rosenkavalier at this charming little cinema tonight. The tickets were not cheap by, hey, it was Rene Fleming as the Marschellin. We heard La Fleming live at the Barbican last December - superb.

Scott Cinemas who run the Regent in Lyme managed to destroy this lovely opera through the basic misconception of 'the louder the better'. The sound level was set at a volume so deafening as to actually distort the music, and make it virtually impossible to listen to. We left after half an excruciating hour.

We have both enjoyed visits to Glyndebourne, The Royal Opera House, Barbican and many other good venues. There should be a simple rule of thumb for a cinematic performance - to render the same volume level as would be experienced in a live performance in a concert hall. What a shame. If you don't want your ear-drums damaged irreparably, give the Regent a very wide berth.
