We booked some time ago it was to be a joint celebratory weekend our anniversary and a birthday. On booking confirmation of rooms 2 & 3 were advised, all advertised as being on suite, well furnished, tea & coffee making facilities and Wifi. On arrival rooms 1 & 2 were given, our room being 1.
Our exclamation of horror was apparent when we saw the view of the dustbins outside our window. Discussion of agreed rooms followed but we were informed that the room we had booked had been let to another couple. The furniture was a collection of odds and ends and beds made of marshmallow. But as we were only there 2 nights and were with friends we decided to stay.
To say you could not swing a cat in it was an understatement, we really could not pass each other in the room despite it being advertised as sleeping 3. After a walk we returned to the hotel where we were informed that someone had been in our room to collect a suit left by the previous occupant.
Whilst passing the kitchens which we did to get to the rooms we observed meals being prepared mainly through deep fat fryers and microwaved meals, this was obviously not the place to eat at night.
On using the shower the next morning we discovered it made an unusual noise the type I imagine a banshee might make, neither of us were able to stay the course. We reported it on the way to breakfast and was told they would look at it that day.
Breakfast was a confusion of tastes. The fresh fruit salad and yogurt refreshingly good, the cooked breakfast a heart attack on a plate having been very obviously cooked in way too much fat, as that was the overpowering taste.
On our return that night the banshee was still present. On speaking to a staff member I was advised 'it does that, you have to turn it on full for it to work properly'. Yet another said they could not get hold of a plumber so we could use the shower in room 3 as they have left. I questioned crossing the landing to another room to use the shower but the instruction was just repeated whilst producing the extra keys.
After another marshmallow night we both took it in turns to go across to shower, having to take towels, shampoo and everything else seemed absurd to say the least, after all this weekend was not meant to be a chore but one of relaxation and celebration.
Needless to say we had the fruit salad for breakfast followed by a few carefully chosen items from the breakfast menu, poached eggs.
On checking out we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay, we had to be honest this was not the weekend we had planned and requested a discount at which the landlady laughingly said you have got to be having a laugh, actually the only laughs we had this weekend came from the company of some great friends as we had all made the most of it.
Anyway if your looking for great views do not take room 1.
If you enjoy well furnished rooms and space to relax this is not the place for you.
If you like well cooked food the Thai up the road is good.
If you enjoy being looked after, treated courteously and listened too.....pardon.
To sum up the place needs a good overhaul with cooking, communication and customer services skills taught. It is well overpriced for what you get.
