2 adults a 9 year old and a 10 year old. Not overpriced, and ALL of us learnt soo much. We were given a quiz to answer and were all fascinated. Quirky little rooms packed floor to ceiling. Lovely chat with the extremely helpful owners who pointed out how to find our own fossils on the beach. Souvenir shop not over priced. Lovely hour spent.

“Poor and boring”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Some bits are interesting. But ultimately it's a tired old museum in desperate need of a refresh and modernisation to engage adults and children. The exhibits are a mishmash of extinct and current and it is very cluttered with a musty smell.

Go if you are keen to support local businesses, if not then I wouldn't bother.

“A must for those that love dinosaurs !”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

This is a place that you can see the owners have a real passion for what they have collected, an amazing array of bones and fossils and worth the entrance price with a great shop too you come away really feeling that you have witnessed real history !

“kids loved it!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We went with our kids who absolutely love fossils and dinosaurs. The kids had really enjoyed looking for fossils across the jurassic coast and this museum was crammed full of them with dinosaurs to boot.
The kids happily browsed the museum for a number of hours which had a wealth of great information.

“Crammed full of great stuff”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

We visited Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in June with my four year old son who is - off the scale - obsessed with dinosaurs and marine reptiles. As with most of our museum visits, it was taken at pace so as parents we don't always have the luxury of being able to immerse ourselves in all the information on offer but such is our lot.

The actual room size of the museum isn't huge considering the scale of some of the animals showcased within it. However, what they have done so well is to create meandering corridors of displays that allows a child to find treasure after treasure amounts the maze of partitions and cabinets.

There is a lovely mix of fossils in situ, reconstructed fossil skeletons and models - the models especially appeal to children with their colour or fearsome expressions. There are some toy dinosaurs for kids to play with next to a display of an ichthyosaur (which my son decided was really a liopleurodon) munching an ammonite which my son particularly liked.

There is a mezzanine floor circling the room which includes a trip through the ages depicting how life evolved from the seas, into amphibians and onto reptiles (and mammal-like reptiles). This floor also gives a great view of some of the larger skeletons, skulls and models that you cannot fully appreciate from below. Also included in the museum is a natural history section including model animals.

My son chose a fossilised shark's tooth from the museum's extensive collection and we later revisited and bought a large ammonite (for the grown ups).

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to returning when my son is older when we might be able to read some more about what we were looking at!
