This b&b has 2 rooms. Both are at the back of the house so you don't get a sea view, but they're tastefully decorated with paintings and other artistic knick knacks. You've probably read the positive reviews, so no need to repeat everything, but its a working artists house full of quirky artist's stuff. And they proper artists as well i.e. they're talented and paint proper pictures, its not the usual tat. The house is lovely. It feels like you're staying in the home of a slightly mad but fun relative. Breakfast on the veranda is wonderful if the weather is good. Lyme Regis is a lovely place to stay for a few days, and this is a good option.

The Artybnbbythesea, is exactly that. I'll get the general comments out of the way of the way first - the rooms are spacious, clean and tidy and the bathrooms seem newly appointed. Breakfast is a healthy cereal, fruit and toast option, which I have to say was a welcome change from the standard full english. The weather was very kind and we had breakfast both mornings outside on the veranda, which has a superb view over Lyme Bay and beyond.
The main attraction of the Artybnbbythesea are Hugh and Candida themselves, who are happy to sit an chat, provide information on the area or other subjects, and make you feel very at home. Please don't expect the standard, sterile approach of most hotels and places to stay. The house is an art project in progress and has fascinating items hanging and standing throughout. Hugh's handcrafted wallpaper hangs in most rooms.
Non-standard and eclectic this is a total one off, which we loved and will hopefully return to when we visit the area again.

Room Tip: There are only 2 to choose from. House is quiet, rooms are spacious for a B&B. bathrooms are wel...

Delightful stay at Little Place. Charming hosts creating a warm welcome. I understand that this lovely house was once owned by Whistler, the spirit of creativity is in the very bricks!

A delightful two nights at this unusual B&B. Would certainly recommend this wonderful home with super views from the breakfast terrace. We know where we'll be staying next time we come to Lyme Regis. Thank you Hugh and Candida. Ian & Sue

We stayed for 2 nights in this lovely, homely, cosy and clean b&b.

For February we were blessed with fantastic weather and had the pleasure of eating our breakfast in the garden overlooking the beautiful uninterrupted view of lyme bay, if you get the weather this is a must!

Booking was really easy via the b&b's own website, Hugh was very prompt at sending additional information.

Arty b&b was easy to find and we had no problems parking free in a street nearby, although you would need to check parking during peak months.

Thank you Hugh and Candida for a lovely stay.

Great little B and B. Just two rooms, but very stylish ones. Quirky and interesting place to stay.
Owners hand printed wallpapers and art work everywhere. Welcomed with a nice cup of tea and home made flapjack.

We stayed here in September 2013 for a long weekend. The stay was planned as a birthday present - part of a larger River Cottage experience - for my fiance Ed.
Ed is extremely hard to please and on our journey back to London he said it was the "best weekend away" he has ever had.

The Arty B&B by the Sea played a major part in the success of our stay. Hugh and his family were extremely welcoming, their home is lovely and quirky, their garden has fab views of the sea and well, we were blessed with very sunny weather which made it pretty perfect!

The bedroom was very clean, smart and well decorate - we loved the blue handblocked wallpaper.
The breakfast was completely homemade, healthy and delicious. Even the crockery was hand made by them!

We were really impressed. Sorry Hugh that this has taken so long to write this review.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Come and stay the weekend, or longer, in our beautiful Georgian home in the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis, the Pearl of West Dorset's Jurassic Coast. Here in Lyme Regis you will never be bored. You can laze on a beach, collect fossils or jetsam from the Victorian dump that is crumbling onto the shoreline. You can trawl the shops or eat yourself silly. It takes a morning to explore the face of this charming Georgian gem, but this is a small town with a large town's appetite for adventure.Turn to the page Things to Do, or ask Hugh when you arrive - what's new? Decorated in handprinted wallpapers, paintings of the coast and of the artist's family, this studio home* is set in the very heart of the town. Little Place is 5 minutes uphill from Broad Street, the main drag, and Langmoor Gardens with its celebrated view and access to the ancient Cobb, the harbour and the beach. We have two rooms with en suite shower, not sea views. You can have breakfast on the verandah with a stunning sea view overlooking Golden Cap, and sit in our garden. Most of the breakfast is home made produce; and we strive to live in an environmentally-friendly way. Parking in nearby pay and display carparks. "One of the prettiest places in the UK" as recently described by John Sargeant, Lyme Regis and especially Little Place continue to be an inspiration to its present artist owners. Here's your opportunity to share that inspiration by staying in a quite unique house in this jewel of a seaside town. This arty house has pedigree. For many years it was the home of Sir Laurence Whistler, The Queen's Glass Engraver. He left his mark on several beautiful windows about the house. This is a creative, working house and we welcome those who respect a quiet atmosphere. Your host Hugh is a working artist with a busy practice in portraits, landscapes, & lino prints together with textiles & wallpaper making. ... more   less
