Had a wonderful stay at this idyllic spot. Joy was was a delightful host - nothing was too much trouble. Saw deer in the field next door and long enjoyable evenings in the hot tub.
Great location close to beautiful Lyme Regis with easy access to local pub.
Would definitely stay again

“Perfection. Again.”

We stayed at The Retreat for a few days before the chaos of Christmas commenced. As during our previous stays, everything was perfect. The owner, Joy, met us when we arrived, checked we had everything we needed, then left us to our own devices. Just as we wanted. This is not called The Retreat for nothing after all. The whole premise of this place is that it is somewhere quiet; perfect to relax and recharge your batteries. Yes, there are lots of labels, but we find them a help not a hindrance. We appreciate they are there for our health, safety and convenience. We were endlessly fascinated watching the squirrels in the trees just feet from where we sat in the hot tub, being chased by the tiny but cheeky robins. We were also lucky enough to see deer in the field beyond. Nature is just amazing. And on the clear evenings, sitting in the glorious hot tub, gazing at the stars. Just incredible. We will certainly be visiting again. It is only 10 minutes by car (apparently about an hour to walk) to Lime Regis, which has numerous places to eat and plenty of shopping, plus of course the beautiful beach. Book The Retreat. You won’t be disappointed.

“Perfect getaway for couples”

I would definitely stay at The Retreat again. Before arriving, the owner sent us useful information about our visit. Upon arrival, we received a warm welcome from the owner who gave us a tour of the property and facilities. The property was in excellent condition, with tasteful home-from-home furnishings and spotless throughout. The property contained everything you needed and every aspect had been thought through at a considerable level of detail. A particular favourite of mine, apart from obviously the hot tub (which was clean, ready, and at a perfect temperature of 38 degrees celsius upon arrival), was the homemade bread and fresh local produce found in our breakfast hamper - no need for that dash to the supermarket as we even had milk to make a cup of tea! Thank you for your hospitality. I look forward to staying again in the future.

“Labels, labels, labels...”

The attention to detail mentioned by other reviewers is certainly clear to see when you open the door and is a theme echoed throughout the place. Literally every appliance, switch, cupboard, and handle (even the windows) has a label directing you how to use it. Firstly the positives: the place was exceptionally clean and well presented; the breakfast basket was noticeably well stocked; the hot tub was a joy to use. However, I soon tired of the green theme. Everything was green, from the colour of the kitchen utensils to the towels and bedding. You simply could not get away from the green and the labels and after four days I was really glad to leave this OCD heaven. Anyway, moving on. I know that this is meant to be retreat from the stress of modern life but wi-fi should be available (particularly at the prices charged). On a practical note,we noticed that our small hatchback grounded at the exit of the driveway. A car with greater ground clearance should have no trouble though. Bottom line is would I return here? The answer is a clear no. The place is set amid truly beautiful countryside, yet the view comprised only of the pale yellow brick wall of the adjoining building towering above you. The place cost us £160 a night for four nights and was not worth it. Interestingly, I am certain the owner knew we were not impressed since she didn't once ask us if we were enjoying ourselves. I guess that it depends on your preferences, If you like being told what to do, and like green, then this may well be perfect for you. But for us, there are plenty of other places that offer a better setting and much better value.

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry I was unable to meet your request to reduce a third off the tariff to fit in with your budget when you arrived a day earlier than booked at Christmas.

I'm glad I was here and able to accommodate you immediately in your ready and warm property.

I have a mix of guests and I find providing information assists, particularly those from overseas, ensuring appliances, particularly the Hot Tub, are used safely.

All the electrical appliances are PAT tested for guest safety by an electrician, hence the date labels on them.

There are lots of photographs and a video for guests to view prior to booking, showing the colour scheme and views of the garden and adjoining fields.

Our other property Acorns has wi fi. As described in this advert, Retreat guests can access wi fi in the porch (or as in your case I invited you into my home to use the wi fi in comfort if required).

I did not see you during your stay, mindful of & respecting your wish to "get away from it all".

It was kind of you to thank me on departure for being ready and waiting in the drive as you were in a hurry - to take the keys & payment quickly so you did not have to get out of your car. It was perishing cold so I did not linger but I did wish you a safe journey home.

Delighted you found the property "exceptionally clean", your private hot tub "a joy" and the hamper "well stocked".

Best wishes for a Happy New Year,

Joy
