This was,our third stay at the
Rockpoint (room2) the double aspect sea views are amazing.the room was clean and tastefully decorated. My parents stayed in the huge penthouse which is beautifully presented particularly the modern bathroom. The landlady was helpful and friendly and having stayed in several other places in Lyme would strongly recommend the rockpoint both for great value and its excellent location.

I stayed here for 1 night with my daughter whilst walking SW coastal path. We had room 1 which was clean but very basic and certainly not worth £70 p.n. for the room. Kettle had to be plugged in on the floor by the bathroom door - maybe Health and Safety need to take a look at this place! I agree with other reviews the place did smell of stale cooking oil. View and location idyllic its just a shame the owner thinks she can rip people off because of the location.
We did politely mention to her in the morning that we didn't feel the room was worth £70 and she just dismissed us - no customer service from this lady.
We weren't expecting luxury but quite honestly this room was worth no more than £40 per night. We certainly were not going to try the food (which we had been looking forward to from their website). How deceiving a good website can be.

Had a weekend break here while visiting Lyme. We were very disappointed with our room (3) which was very basic with no wardrobe or storage space, just a couple of hangers, a very small tv and very cheap furniture. The room wasn't particularly clean and we had a problem with a blocked toilet. When we reported this to staff it was rectified quickly and we got the impression that this was a regular occurance. No breakfast included, which we were made aware of on booking.

We stayed here last night as a party of 4, the other couple had the 'Penthouse Suite' which was roasting hot inside with a window that wouldn't open and we had a smaller room downstairs, which was more comfortable in temperature. The rooms themselves are decorated very tastefully, with large bathrooms.

The views are stunning, which is always a bonus, and it's lovely to be right next to the sea. The downside is that the hotel reeked of cooking oil. Yes, I know it's busy, but the smell of cooking grease was really overwhelmingly strong, as another customer has mentioned. We also tried to use the wifi but the password did not work. When my husband went downstairs to ask, the rather grumpy chap told him that the password was wrong. My husband commented that he had used the password written on the menu left in the room and was told that the menu is the old one and the password is wrong. He really was grumpy and it appeared to be too much hassle for him to write down the new one.

The lady who runs the inn is certainly much more friendlier and was very accommodating, it's such a shame that the chap with her comes across as not liking anyone who isn't local. He was chatty enough with the 2 drunk men who jeered at us as we went upstairs, after an evening out.

All in all a bit of mixed bag with pluses and minuses, which make it an average stay.

We recently stayed in Lyme Regis as we have relatives who live there and were told this pub had changed quite substantially so thought we'd give it a go. Food wise we were not disappointed; a great standard, typical 'pub grub' menu but with some very interesting specials. There were four of us dining and this is where the problem was. There just isn't enough space for four or even three - as we in the end placed two tables together! Tiny, tiny area once plates, condiments and glasses become involved it was so very cramped and rather uncomforatble. Seating not its best either and this was made evident when a few nights later we dined across the road at the Pilot Boat where square tables and padded seats give a much more comfortable experience. Shame, but everything else was fine...Very reasonably priced too.

Walking alongside the coast I decided tO stop at Lyme Regis and without any booking turned in the Rock Point Inn. Good deal considering at £60 without booking and more importantly the best shower (proper pressure) if my trip. Good drinks as well as friendly staff: no-nonsense place.

When shown to our rooms one had a window that would not close facing the sea which was impossible to sta in on a rainy october night, they did give us another room but it was rather shabby, so we decided to share the top room. It had been refurbished recently and was big with a very large bath/shower room, and there are great views from the wimdow, but something was lacking. Would not stay again.

We were made aware of a fault in the window and did our upmost to provide a solution. The 'top room' as described is our penthouse suite. This can be viewed online. With breathtaking views of the Jurassic Coast, the ancient harbour and Portland we feel the tariff of £90 represents incredible value. A Queen size bed, large walk in shower, comfortable seating and 40" LCD television adds to the experience and all this for £45 per person!

Our guests have stated they would not return as the above description 'lacks something'...Just what we can not fathom.
