Great food and great atmosphere, staff are nice and service is good. Hall & Woodhouse have a good set up. Will go back again…. The bar at weekends has a great feel and the centre location to Blandford is convinent.

The title probably makes me sound like a snob but I had no idea the rooms would be so charming! We had to stay in a twin as no doubles were left and at first I didn't want to stay there. The staff did offer to move us once a double became available but we decided not to. Our room was very big and very old fashioned but in a traditional way rather than somewhere which had not been tended to. The service from the staff, from the cleaner to the receptionists was wonderful as was the breakfast. They had no gluten free bread though which may be something to either offer in the future or to ask guests on arrival of any food intolerances so they can purchase alternative items as I do understand food may go to waste if not an everyday requirement. But this was just a small point, I can live without toast on my breakfast.

The heating was cranked too high which is a fashion of all English hotels I find and so we switched that off and opened the window. The windows were ill fitting sash which while absolutely lovely to look at and should be retained, need some tweaking as they let in an awful lot of noise.

We did eat in the bar one night and the food was delicious. The drinks are quite outrageously expensive but again, this is another hotel trait. Free wi fi was available which was a bonus.

I did think the hotel was quite expensive but in comparison with the area, is probably cheaper than some of the others and you are in the centre of town, however small that is! But we would stay again without hesitation. I´d probably just take my own bread :o)

Last weekend I had to visit my son' s school for his annual parent' s meeting and I stayed at the Crown Hotel for three nights. Situated just a comfortable walk away ( when it does not rain :-) ) from my son' s school this hotel-pub is always my favorite. They always serve decent food and cold beer and their staff is ever cheerful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone for a stay.

Lovely building, beautifully appointed inside, with big public spaces, big open fires and sofas, impeccably pleasant, well-spoken and well-trained reception staff, a good large dining room without any pretension, plenty of dark polished wood, good food and alert, considerate waitresses; yet it also had a large and busy bar, clearly attracting locals from all ages and classes. Terrific.

It probably just shows my ignorance but to find a place like the Crown in Dorset was just great. It was a lovely place, very nice rooms and good service. Obviously it caters for wedding and the like so has very good rooms and dining amenities. Whether you are visiting Dorset or just passing through and the Crown is in your price range, give it a serious look.

Hotel foyer bar etc are all well maintained clean tidy and fine. Bedroom was clean but small, small bed, small wardrobe, cramped, and a little tired around the edges. Bathroom again small and tired, in need of refreshing. In bath shower doesn't have enough height to be able to stand under neath shower head unless you are about 5, 2. I am not..... All of the above to me does not equate to value for money when coupled with a bill for one night of £130.000.

So this is a pub hotel. We booked it for a couple of days while visiting friends, not expecting miracles. I have to say it was very very good. The service was professional but also friendly. The public areas were simply excellent; spacious, relaxed, good bar service. In summer, the outside area is a gorgeous place to have a drink and read the paper. And the restaurant was very good. Excellent food and service. If i had to be critical about anything, I would say the decor in the rooms could do with updating a little. But overall, I was very impressed, and would return.
