My husband and I stayed overnight here recently whilst attending a local wedding and were pleased with the hotel. We stayed in the only room they had left, the family room which was actually two rooms (a double and a twin) and a bathroom. The rooms were large and clean if ever so slightly dated. However, it is an old building and did not detract from the overall stay.

The hotel itself is a Hall & Woodhouse pub with a great range of ales and delicious food. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were helpful and friendly. There is also free wifi and parking. Great value for money.

I have been once and I had in every moment a good service. Everybody was very nice and I can't complain about this. The room was big, but it was like a little bit old. It wasn't a good room. The hotel is in a very good zone, with restaurants for eating, and places were you could be able to have a relaxing moment. The breakfast of the hotel was normal, there weren't a lot of things, but the restaurant was better. In my opinion a normal hotel.

Stayed here for 5 nights room 35 - staff very friendly and helpful couldn't fault them. As for the experience - shower in room only hit & miss whether it was very hot or cold. Decor not very good - stain on ceiling above door & what looked like a foot print on ceiling? Apart from that room clean. Used lift for couple of days but wouldn't risk it after 2 power cuts - caused by sub-station failure? Hotel / brewery need to possibly spend money to either have chillers serviced or replaced with a quieter model - very noisy at night. Breakfast was good with a good choice on menu. As for the bar - if you enjoy real ale or Guiness don't even try it - tasteless and flat. Apart from these minor faults would stay here again as it's a good location for touring area - plus the fact you are out all day - the only important thing is a comfortable bed and a decent breakfast - everything else is a bonus.

Room Tip: Room 35 at rear noisy because of the chiller units.

We stayed 10 days recently and had a fantastic experience. The hotel is busy and well organised, clean and well maintained. The staff are better than the 7* hotel staff we have experienced in Qatar and UAE where we live.
Breakfast is fresh with a good range. the reception staff are especially nice, genuinely friendly and caring.
We have already booked our return in December and hope to have many more stays here. the value for money is outstanding.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 are lovely.

We stayed at this hotel from 18/08/2014 till the 20/08/12 on arriving we were told that the lift was out of order but would be repaired the next day still not repaired when we booked out.We had a disabled lady with us the disabled bedroom was on the second floor up two steep stair cases no other room was available so they had no option but to take the room.the room my wife and I stayed in was on the first floor quite a nice room on reading the info for the hotel if reception required ring 9 ( no phone in the room ) it was a very hot night no air con or fan in the room. The next day was very wet and thundering and lightening, we were attending a wedding we were very lucky it was a afternoon wedding apparently the electrical sub station was damaged by the lightening therefore no electricity to the hotel no back up so no showers were working .The next day again we were very lucky we had water and a shower but the bridle suite had no water therefore no shower. The food was very good and the bar and all the staff who worked in the hotel were very pleasant and helpful. It may be that we were just unlucky for staying that weekend.

Room Tip: check before arriving that the lifts are working.

First I want to say how lovely all the staff are at The Crown. This hotel has oodles of potential but it is failing drastically as it is in desperate need of refurbishment.
I have been going there quite often recently and have finally reached the point of refusing to go again. I have had a range of rooms and they are all in a similar state.
The bedrooms have scuffed and chipped walls, looking like someone has taken a pencil to the walls. The baths are chipped. In 2 rooms I have recently had, the bathroom doors wouldn't shut. Not a pleasant experience for me and my partner.
My biggest bone of contention is that it is pot luck if you can get any hot water for the shower or bath, especially if you are on the top floor. This is just not acceptable. Recently the lift hasn't been working on several occasions and there was no offer to carry my luggage to the top floor until I asked and then I got a begrudging 'i'll do it for you' from the very busy receptionist. The beds vary in comfort to the point of being unbearably lumpy. Only some bedrooms have a telephone so you don't need to keep running up and downstairs to get the right replacement bulb for the bedside lamp! Only some rooms have a fan in this hot weather, other rooms don't.
The staff try their best, but have now been saying for several months that they are expecting a refurbishment soon. I have been given a refund or the cost of a meal to make up for some of these issues but this does NOT help me get a good night's sleep or a decent wash before a day at work. As I said at the beginning, the staff try their very best to help out but it is not enough. They charge too much for substandard rooms and I am 1 person who will not be going there again until this promised refurbishment has taken place. What a shame!

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the top floor as they seem to be the ones with no hot water for showers or bat...

Stayed on business, room was very pleasant and clean. I was concerned that with the room over looking the main road, it may have been a noisy night, as it was a hot evening, so I had to have the windows open, but the noise levels were surprisingly quiet. Eat from the Fixed priced menu £16.95 as I had the Rib eye supplement, with soup to start. Very nice meal, and helpful staff. Surprised that they charge £19.50 for the same Rib eye steak meal on the main menu, with no additional course?
