The Mrs and I stayed here for three nights in June. We wanted quiet, countryside, dark skies, walk to the pub, grounds to walk in without having to take the car. We got all of these in Goose Run Cottage. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Jonathan and Rosie are perfect hosts, there if you need them, but you're left alone if you don't to just get on with unwinding and chilling. We will definitely be back, soon hopefully.
We stayed at Goose Run cottage for a long weekend & it is a perfect location if you want some tranquillity in a stunning location. The cottage is set on the side of the hill overlooking a small lake.
The hosts Jonathan & Rosie have designed & built a two-bed cottage that blends into the landscape but incorporates all the modern facilities that you would want. The cottage is easy to find the introduction email you receive about a week before gives you very precise directions. Access to the building is easy when we arrived there was a welcome bottle of wine & locally baked ginger cake.
The kitchen has all the facilities you will need. We cooked a couple of times & made full use of everything, but there are many options locally if you want to eat out. The master bedroom has splendid views over the lake, the bed was very comfortable & the en-suite well appointed.
The second bedroom is smaller with an en-suite shower & toilet. We stayed in the recent heatwave, but the interior stayed cool thanks to the thick stone walls.
You can walk around all the grounds. There are sheep which belong to the hosts, but they are friendly & will run off if you walk up to them. In addition, there are two alpaca’s which apparently keep the foxes away during lambing. They look mean but will also keep their distance. You can walk to the Fox Inn which is the local pub by walking past the lake & up the other side of the hill. Through the gate making sure you close it behind you & follow the bridal path for about 15 mins. This brings you out in Corscombe & the pub is right there. The staff are very friendly & you can eat here. If the weather is good you can sit across the road on the green & you will get the utter the words ‘why did the chicken cross the road’
We can’t recommend Goose Run Cottage enough & will be looking to return as soon as we can.
This is our second visit to Goose Run Cottage and we were pleased to have the same feelings as before on arriving. The cottage and setting are lovely and we enjoyed our few days there. The cottage itself is beautifully furnished and we enjoyed walking round the grounds and little lake. Jonathan and Rosie are very welcoming and helpful. We hope to return again.
There's something magical about this place. It's beautifully done, everything is immaculate and looks great. The setting and the view - through the huge double doors onto the private terrace or from the large windows opposite the bed in the master bedroom - is glorious; we could spend hours just taking it all in.
The hosts - Jonathan and Rosie - are welcoming, helpful and delightful to chat to. They most certainly make the place and we found their pub and restaurant recommendations to be spot on. Plus they have created their own beautiful garden adjacent to the cottage which is a pleasure to see.
The location is great with an easy travel time to all the places we wanted to go.
We loved the fire pit and found the supply of kindling and firewood laid ready for us very helpful and we had fun cooking on the suspended grill over the fire several times.
I particularly appreciated the plentiful supply of things like Nespresso capsules, cleaning materials, toiletries etc., they really have thought of everything. On top of that, they kindly unloaded a supermarket delivery for us before we arrived, so the fridge was full and the wine was chilled.
It's not a question of if we will return - it's a question of when!
From the warm welcome from Jonathan and Rosie to the view over the rolling hills and the great finishes of this cottage, this was the perfect place to spend our first holiday with our 4 month old daughter. Good location within a 30min drive of a number of beaches and National Trust properties. Well appointed property with stunning views from the garden and fire pit! One of the nicest self catering cottages we’ve stayed in.
The cottage is absolutely gorgeous, there are small touches of luxury everywhere. The hosts are so accommodating and welcoming. We had chilled wine and locally made cake awaiting our arrival and assistance with getting settled, which was so appreciated.
The view of the estate and surrounds are food for the soul and the ability to walk about the estate and immerse yourself in the English countryside was just perfect.
I highly recommend this cottage for a lovely stay and we will be returning for a longer stay in the future.
Goose run cottage is one of the nicest holiday rentals we have stayed in. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed. Jonathan and Rosie have put a lot of thought into the design, layout and furnishings to create a unique experience. They are also great hosts, providing us with a warm welcome which made our 25th wedding anniversary mini-break one to remember. The master bedroom suite took our breath away and the lake view from this room is like a painting. This is a cottage where you can relax in comfort. The photos do not capture the true essence of this tranquil setting and at any time of year you are guaranteed a wonderful view of the Dorset countryside and its wildlife. You can sit in your own private garden, wander down to the lake, or around the farm. The local pub and public footpaths are within walking distance. Goose Run Cottage provided peace and quiet in luxurious surroundings - very happy memories.
