“Try and count all the teddies !!”
Reviewed 2 November 2010

My 4 year old daughter loved this ride - in fact we returned 3 times........however, whilst the train has a roof - there are no windows - which can cause damp spots on the clothing during the ride...not a bad ride though...

I didn't like the look or smell of the cafe next to the station - suggest give that a miss.!!

“The children didnt stop giggling.”
Reviewed 15 October 2009

My aunty treated myself and my family and lots of other cousins to this fantastic experience. The children were aged from between 7 to under 1 and they all absolutely loved it. The adults enjoyed it too. There were so many teddies to look out for and little tunnels to go through. We would all definitely come again, we had a fantastic time. It was covered over head too which was handy due to the rain falling! A super super experience. The children didnt stop giggling.

“A delightful 1.5 mile ride on a miniature railway though English woodland - look out for the teddy bears' picnic!”
Reviewed 26 August 2009

This is a really enjoyable outing for any age but it's particularly suitable for children. It takes about 10 minutes and follows a really lovely route through private woodland. There may be a steam engine or a diesel engine running. The carriages are covered but open sided so dress warmly if it's a cold day. There's a large picnic area with wet weather cover, a refreshment hut & souvenir shop, and a woodland walk.
The railway is directly opposite the entrance Audley End House & Gardens so it's easy to visit both in a day (separate entrance fees).
It's very close to Saffron Walden (15 mins walk or 2 mins in the car). Nearest mainline train station: Audley End (London Liverpool Street - Cambridge line, also trains from Stansted Airport).

“The best miniature railway in Saffron Walden”
Reviewed 4 September 2008

The only miniature railway in Saffron Walden.
Ideal experience / entertainment for small children for an hour or so. Good as an antidote to or as a bribe to visit the stately Audley End House house and gardens which are just over the road.
The steam trains are especially popular.
Light refreshments available - souvenirs, drinks, snacks confectionary, ice lollies etc. But no hard sell of these.
Has some themed days (Father Christmas run gives out treats , etc.)
Grass / tables for a picnic on a sunny day.
Can get busy.
Convenient parking for cars / push bikes are padlocked to the fence slats (if you're not precious about your zillion £ titanium masterpiece).
A fun couple of hours for smaller children and/or train fanatics.
For the train fanatics, it is a 10 1/4 inch gauge railway.
The track runs for about 1.5 miles through part of the local Lord's (Lord Braybrooke) pretty estate.
You'll see the River Cam (which runs on to Cambridge), and lots of teddies and other furry toys on your way around the track.
The run takes about 10 - 15 minutes, unless it is a "special" such as Father Christmas/Christmas grotto, in which case it takes a bit longer.
