Definitely essential to book for Sunday lunch as the place was heaving when we arrived - there is seating inside and out. No menus, you just look at the blackboard. There is something to suit everyone. We all had different things - I had the fish and chips, which was a large portion marred only by the skin left on the fish. The batter was perfect and the fish nicely cooked. The burger and chips was a great success and the roast - chicken in this instance - was rated "a bit dry" but she did add that, as a regular customer, this was the first time she had encountered this.
As the restaurant was so busy we did wait a while for the food but this was only to be expected - all the staff were very friendly and the service was efficient. Only one of us opted for a pudding - the first choice, Eton mess, had all gone so the crumble was chosen. It was a huge portion, served with a generous portion of ice cream and marred only by the fact that the apple was very hard and inedible. All in all though a good lunch in very pleasant and congenial surroundings. Clearly a very popular venue.More
