We went for lunch in the restaurant downstairs recently, a first time visit for us but a few friends have recommended it . It was very good, we thoroughly enjoyed our food. We had oysters followed by skate wings both of which were excellent. We both liked the fact that you were never rushed and the staff were very helpful and had just the right manner. Would definitely recommend going and we will certainly return, in fact thinking of staying at Christmas. We were shown some rooms all of which were nicely presented some had wonderful views and others varied in size but I would have been happy in any of them.
Altogether very good.

This is a terrific place to stay, not cheap but wonderful. We had two rooms, and had the dinner bed and breakfast package. Dinner delicious, breakfast sensational. The highlight was catching the sea shanty singers on Sunday over a cheeky glass of midday fizz.
Whilst they are dog friendly and Sybil the schnauzer loved it there, they do encourage dogs to keep to one area which I think is just about right.

Room Tip: Ask for sea facing. If in a larger group ask of the second building as it has a massive private li...

Visited Harwich back in August for the first time from Australia.
Stayed overnight here and was highly impressed from arrival to departure!!
Hospitality was outstanding, accommodation deluxe and the food good quality.
Staff even booked our accommodation for our next destination. They went that extra mile for us.
A must when visiting Harwich!!!

We only had one night at The Pier Hotel, but it was wonderful. The staff had answered questions I had sent by e mail prior to arrival. They were all very helpful and took good care of us. We arrived very early on the night ferry from Hoek of Holland and were able to leave our luggage while we explored. The building was old, but the room was up to date in comfort -- a nice chair, lovely bath, complimentary drinks, and a large, comfortable bed. We ate in the hotel bistro and enjoyed our meals. For lunch we ate outside. Very nice. There also was a nice looking lounge, but we weren't inside enough to take advantage. Oh, and there was free wifi. We loved being right on the water and being able to watch all the activity. There were several other less expensive hotels, but I felt we got value for our money, and we would love to stay there again.

We decided to 'try' our dog in a hotel rather than self-catering accommodation. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The dog settled well and we were able to relax and enjoy excellent food and in a very comfortable hotel.

We enjoyed our brief stay at the Pier Hotel in Harwich. We arrived quite late around 9pm having come to Harwich on the ferry from Hook of Holland. The check in was very welcoming and smooth and dinner fortunately was still available.

The hotel is spread between 2 buildings, one quite a bit older than the other. We were given a room in the older building over looking the quay which was great.

Im not a great fan of showers in baths, which this had. Needless to say I managed to slip in the bath while showering and cracked my head. No damage done, however a non slip mat for the bath might be a good investment by the hotel going forward.

We had actually wanted to book the Mayflower Suite however the website was a bit confusing when we made the reservation as you are not really sure what sort of room you are booking and the Mayflower Suite didn't appear as an option, although the the suite seemed empty while we were there. Perhpas you have to call the hotel by phone to secure that room.

Anyway nice hotel and would certainly stay there again if the circumstances presented.

Room Tip: We had the room next to the Mayflower Suite over looking the quay and RNSL Station in the older buil...

I have had lunch here many times but the last time I stayed over night was in 1968! Much has changed. We had arranged to meet friends from Essex and decided to take a dinner bed a breakfast deal. We had a superior room (they all were!) in the annex. Great room and an excellent lounge. The dinner was superb. Try the crab and avocado tacos. There were four of us and all had different choices from the menu. You need to pay extra for lobster but that was expected. The total course of a three course dinner, great wines, coffee and a wonderful breakfast including room came to about £250 per couple. Staff were great and listen for the shipping forecast in the dining room loos! There is free parking at the rear of the hotel. Would go again if we lived nearer but I had to look at what remains of HMS Ganges.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We thank you for your feedback, however we do not respond to individual comments. Following on from a 1.5 million reinvestment over the last 5 months, The Pier at Harwich is once again open and set to become East Anglia's number one coastal destination for food and drink. The redefined brasserie is located on the first floor of the completely modernised 1860 listed building in historic Harwich. Experience all-day dining (all-year-round) and outdoor dining - whenever the sun shines - with a menu celebrating modern classics, an exciting grill menu and wonderful fresh fish and shellfish landed on The Pier's doorstep. Guests can select from a predominantly European wine list or enjoy Prosecco-based cocktails, craft beers and cask ales. The stripped back and raw textured interior, designed by Geraldine Milsom, makes reference to the industrious and hardworking Harwich port, but achieves a balance between function, luxury and glamour. The harbour wall is only 20 metres from the door and The Pier's newly extended first floor balcony (for drinks and outdoor dining) overlooks the water, ships and working docks. With estuary views from every table, The Pier, only a stone's throw from the confluence of the Stour and Orwell estuaries is a very special destination for lovers of great food and drink. NAVYÄRD on the ground floor is a continental bar and terrace adjacent to the working harbour, the ideal place for fun and relaxation. Cask ales, craft beers, a great drinks list, Prosecco-based cocktails and one of the most carefully sourced and extensive gin lists makes the NAVYÄRD 'the' go-to bar for The Pier's neighbours, friends and welcomed guests. The NAVYÄRD is undeniably and unashamedly a 'love letter to the continent' - celebrating and championing the influential and historic links that Harwich holds with Scandanavia and wider Europe. The wines, beers, ales, drinks list and a gin library have been sourced from across Europe and are complemented throughout the day by Nordic-inspired small-plated food. Great coffee, fresh pastries and the simplest tastiest late breakfasts (think eggs, rye bread and avocado) through to open Scandinavian sandwiches, sharing platters and fresh oysters. The 14 bedrooms are individually styled to match the seascape and take full advantage of the brilliant light that you only get when staying on the coast. Harwich enjoys glorious sunsets with molten coloured horizons and the setting sun on the Stour estuary is a special feature of staying at The Pier. All bedrooms are equipped with complimentary soft drink mini-bars, Aromatherapy Associates bathroom products, Sky In-Room and free Wi-Fi making The Pier an exceptional small hotel. ... more   less
