Captain Fryatt Guest House
Ranked #1 of 4 Harwich B&B and Inns
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Stayed at the Captain Fryatt the night before Good Friday. The staff were very helpful and made sure we were made to feel welcome. The rooms were clean and practicable. We had an on suite and again it was clear and spacious. The shower was a challenge but once we had mastered the controls it was fine. The bar is popular with locals and was a little rowdy. The Indian Cafe on site was a new experience and is very good value for money. Only minor issues need to be made such as mirrors in the bedroom, coat hangers to allow clothes to be placed on the rail. The room was basic but again clean and practicable.

A comfortable, attractive room with good telly and nice bathroom. And good value for £49. But so minimalist it makes a Travelodge look well appointed.

No breakfast, no tea and coffee making facilities, no drinking vessels of any kind (if you want a glass of water, forget it) no soap, very thin cheap pillows (a pity, as the bed was lovely) and a shower that promised much but delivered little more than a dribble. And a faint slightly dirty/musty smell - couldn't work out whether this was coming from outside or inside the room. But I must stress everything looked thoroughly clean and spotless so no complaints there..

Before I forget the best thing is that the sheets in this hotel smell great because they have their own indoor laundry room!
Overall a great experience,
lovely very well kept building, modernized with preservation of antique elements,
Rooms, stairways, everything very very clean.
Warm welcoming reception, efficient and friendly staff.
Though name sounds like a pirates name to me, it is actually named after a war hero.
Pub downstairs did not bother me.
No kettles in rooms though, with new owner

very close to terminal of stena line and railway station.
Shop and cash point are opposite the guest house and a huge supermarket is a bit further down the road.
Quite pictoresque part of town
Very good value for money, would highly recommend

Room Tip: choose a double room, or bigger one even
