Room was cold on arrival but the radiator was off so we turned it on and the second night the room was a nice temperature. Fan heater supplied though, so first night temperature remedied. Lots of hot water so had a lovely bath both nights. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and open fires in the bar made the place feel really homely. Staff very friendly and helpful. Band playing the second night so very busy but we were eating out anyway so it didn't really affect us apart from two 'visitors' who somehow gained entrance to our 'private' bathroom and appeared to want to spend some time 'chatting' in there!... amusing more than anything! Once we reported this to the staff the visitors were removed hastily. The noise went on till late but it is nice to see a well populated local hotel and it didn't bother us. Great breakfast, only comment is the room where it was served was really cold. Very comfy bed, free wifi... a little run down but we really liked this place and will be back.

Stayed here with a baby on a busy night leading up to xmas and didnt hear any of the revelry taking place in the bar. Spacious rooms, quirky olde world feel in keeping with the historic market town location. Showers are powerful and hot, tea making facilities and freeview flat screen tvs. The cooked breakfast was fantastic with cereals, juices and jams. The staff are lovely and not overbearing. Good pub with atmosphere due to the welcoming locals and bar staff. Food looked good and very reasonably priced. Excellent value accomodation that will suit those who like accomodation with character-will definitely return!

We dropped in here for lunch last week and had a reasonable visit. The food was quite tasty but the service was not good. They do need to invest more in their staff training. We had a chicken dish with vegetables and it was well presented. We also had vegetable soup which we enjoyed too. We would go back if we are in town and hungry!

Stayed 2 nights. Very nice staff , rooms are in need off attention , nasty beds , cold. Food in mornings is okay , cooked food not so much, dinner was poor , Would find somewhere else to eat out. Pub itself is nice , nice open lit log fire. It's just a shame the rest could not of been to the same quality.

Stayed here one night. Pleasant town, lovely building full of charm and character. Triple room was a very good size. However, manager didn't know we were coming (he found 4 emails when we pointed out that we'd booked online), which could explain the used towel left in the room, and the skid marks and poo-splatters in the 'private' bathroom (I'm no princess, but I shouldn't have had to clean brown stuff off the seat!). It doesn't explain why no one has fixed the broken window in the bathroom - it's just going to get colder! I wouldn't want to be trying to sleep in the room next door to the bathroom, as the hot water makes a dreadful racket. Bar noise was as expected and not too bad.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as we had booked a visit to the Three Choirs Vineyard. We found the hotel to be very good value with comfortable accomodation. The staff were friendly and the your Manager himself kindly even drove us to the Vineyard for our winetasting tour and then picked us back up again. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfy and the really well cooked full English breakfast went down very well the following morning! Overall a pleasant stay.

Stayed here one night whilst walking in the area. Made welcome by the young manager. My room was a twin, adequately furnished but the excellent shower/toilet was down a corridor. Good supply of toiletries and tea making essentials.
The friendly bar was busy all day and I decided to eat early to get some space. The 'restaurant' at the back of the pub didn't look particularly appealing. The food was good quality for a pub and there was a fair selection of beers. The bar was taken over later by a darts match - good to see a lively community.
Slept well till the early hours when the post office/delivery depot next door started work - lots of vans and noisy people. My room was at the front and over the road.
Breakfast was good and the overall price average.
