“Very Nice Hotel”
Reviewed 15 January 2012

Like most business users, you look for key things, location, cost, comfort and food, so it's nice to say that this is one hotel where you can relax, eat decent food and not pay over the odds.

I stayed in the main hotel building which is simply beautiful, the rooms are tastefully decorated (The Bear at Rodborough take note) with a luxurious bed. Yes there was the odd cobweb which I am sure the hotel inspector would quibble over, but all told very clean and very nice.

The restaurant service and attention to detail was spot on, decent portions, nice selection and well presented.

This is a well appointed hotel, with friendly helpful staff and ideally located.

I will be coming back.

I eat here quite regularly as it is very close to where my mother lives. In my opinion it is one of the better medium priced restaurants in the Stroud valleys in a very nice setting. There is a good choice of food and caters for both traditional and contemporary tastes. Portions are a good size and you really must try Shirley's Steak and Kidney Pudding - like no other! Steaks are always cooked just right too. I have no experience of the hotel.

The location and building exteriors are beautiful, but that is where the joy ends with this hotel. The rooms in the garden house are like a cheap hostel and do not reflect the historic property. We stayed in a beautiful building dating from 1698 but the room was poorly decorated with naff 1980s style flower pics on the walls, a basic bathroom and an odd orangey brown paint on the walls, a small spend on paint and decor that reflects the property would make a huge difference to the quality of the rooms. The breakfast is really poor and the staff were indifferent at best. There are a lot of stairs and no porter so beware if you have trouble with movement. Overall I felt that this hotel needs to be overhauled and some fresh thinking and customer focus could produce real improvements without too much need to invest a lot of money. There are much better places to stay in that beautiful part of the UK.

We recently stayed here while visiting family in the locality - its always a bit disconcerting to chose the ony hotel in town, but all in all a pleasant stay. Our room was up in the top floor, but clean and spacious - its an old listed mill and as a result the sound insulation is not up to modern standards- but there you go. We ate in he restaurant and again 2 huge tasty well presented courses each for £10 was a real bargain. Overall very pleased and will stay again.

Nailsworth is a few kilometres away from The Pyramids of Giza but this gem of a hotel is a credit to a lively Cotswolds trown and a great place for an autumn break. The friendly and can do approach of the staff is a credit to the management and the range of services makes it ideal for a wedding reception. The public areas are decorated with interesting objects d'art and pictures while the bedrooms are comfortable and well furnished. The setting overall with the flowing stream, ducks, mill pond, and well cared for gardens makes Egypt Mill and oasis of calm only seconds from the centre of Naislworth. The dinner menu is pitched to suit all tastes and the wine list has a few gems in it including my favourite Chateau Musar from Lebanon - one you don't see in many places even in London but a great wine in the French tradition. A minor niggle or two in the slighlty frayed carpet and a shower that dribbled rather than spat out the hot water and the late night Saturday wedding disco bothered some guests but was inaudible to us. The weekend offer for two made it real value for money - don't miss it especially if you want romance.

My daughter and I stayed here in order to make recommendations to future guests at her wedding next year. We were very impressed with thye front of house lady and the food.
We commented on our first allocated room that we preferred to be at the back to see the river and nothing was too much trouble. We were given the keys to a couple of other available rooms and allowed to choose.
We ate in the hotel in the evening and again for breakfast.
I found the food to be excellent, beautifully presented, good quality and well cooked. The service was great and the atmosphere in the restaurant was upbeat and cheery with friendly staff and customers!
We had a lovely stay and would whole heartedly recommend the Egypt Mill. We are particularly pleased it has turned out to be so great as the bride is an Egyptologist so it tickled our fancy to be able to suggest an hotel with that name. Great all round.

Room Tip: We liked the main building on the ground floor best.
