Egypt Mill Hotel & Restaurant

Beautifully situated next to the river, Egypt Mill is inviting to the diner, old mill charm, rustic decor, very homely.
let's talk of the food, I was expecting good things, having been lured here by the surrounding aesthetics. What we got was basic pub fayre, little or no imagination, the wait for our order was half an hour or so, just for a chicken sandwich & an omelette ! This place reminiscent of the chain restaurants that cloud our high streets, however Egypt Mill, does serve a neich, Nailsworth having a number of fine eating establishments, sometimes you just want to eat with no fuss. home cooking ! This is not ment as a criticism, it is what it is.

We found the Egypt Mill purely by chance, but what a find.
The staff are absolutely excellent to start off with. The location is great - it is quite literally just off the A46 which is a main road - and it's well signposted.
We booked in advance, and we received an email saying that there was a charity ball organised for ther night of our stay and there would be excessive noise. We decided to continue with the stay anyway and it was well worth it. The building itself is an old mill that has been restored sympathetically, to an exceptionally high standard, and it retains a lot of the original features - including a mill pond with insatiable ducks. Our room was was well appointed, scrupulously clean and very comfortable.
We chose to eat at the Egypt Mill and were rewarded with a true, restaurant quality meal. It is well priced considering the quality of food (£60 for two people including wine) and I could find nothing wrong with it. The breakfast is excellent too, offering a wide selection from kippers, to full English, to eggs royals.
I will be going back. I am quite fussy and don't often go to the same place twice - but in this instance, I will be making an exception.

Room Tip: Room 16 has a window which is about twenty feet from a public foot path. Worth keeping in mind for t...

What can I say wow!! On the 1st November 2013 I became a Mrs :)

From the moment we had decided to have the reception meal at the Egypt Mill the staff had been nothing but helpful. When I first contacted them to ask about having a reception meal for 25 people they said we could have the upstairs room (approx £300 off the top of my head), or we could have the wheel room in the restaurant for free. As the whole day was on a budget we when for the wheel room. To be honest I thought that we wouldn't get the best service as I had gone from the cheap option but how wrong was I!!

From table arrangements, to the cake stand; to the service on the day, to allowing us to have the upstairs after the meal. They were amazing!!

We got to the Egypt Mill at around 3pm and we had some lovely photographs taken outside in by the beautiful mill, and then went inside for food. As I have completed the pre-order form the food came out quickly and was cooked to perfection. They were so attentive and thoughtful in the way they treated us. We were able to do speeches and the closed off the wheel room to the restaurant so we have privacy which was so thoughtful.

When we had finished and went upstairs to the lounge area, they took all the flowers and cake up for us and also allowed us to play some music in the background while people have coffees and cake.

My HUSBAND and I then stayed the night at the mill and slept in the lovely large room and comfy bed. All in all we couldn't of wished for a better place to have out reception meal. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff (especially the man working the restaurant and bar he may have been the manager or assistant manager I want to say Matt?) for making our day even more special.

We've already said that we will make it an anniversary tradition to come and stay at the Egypt Mill.

Thank you!!

Room Tip: We had the bridal suite which is amazing!!

What a gem! We found the Egypt Mill online and thought it would be an ideal central point at which to meet up with our friends for a weekend. Friendly, helpful reception staff ensured that we were all in the same building ( there are three accommodation areas ). We stayed in the Mill House, comfortable well appointed rooms with beds so comfortable that it was a hardship to get up in time for breakfast. We were so glad we did - the choice was excellent. Our meals all arrived at the same time, beautifully cooked and piping hot. Proper coffee too!
The gardens and surroundings are super - the water garden and the 'iron works' are a pleasure to sit in. Recommend the 'iron works' open fire on a chilly damp evening although look out for the ducks!

First time at the Egypt Mill. Friendly staff on arrival and through out our stay. We up graded to a garden room which was a lovely room but a little far. I think it would be better in summer as it was dark and the path quite slippery. But the room was nice and warm as was the restaurant. Food and service in the restaurant was very good as well as the breakfast the next morning. The bar area is not very welcoming and feels quite cold and bare. But outside there is a lovely wood burner where we sat having our drinks after our meal. I was so glad that this was there as otherwise I think we would have gone to the Britannia pub in the village for a drink. Would recommend this hotel and we will stay there again maybe in summer.

Staff very friendly from reception to waitress. Had room 16 which was very spacious however our friends room 12 was quite cramped. Room was quite close to man road but was not bothered by noise. When booking ask where room is as we were in main building lots of stairs. Breakfast excellent Saturday choice, although would recommend getting down early Sunday we ate later and portions smaller, fruit almost gone and service slower as very busy. Restaurant meals very good and no rush book in advance to ensure table. Sat round fire outside even on damp day quaint. Visited Westonbirt Arboretum and Tetbury.
