We have stayed at Dingley Lodge annually for the last 5 or 6 years and have never had a bad stay. Bruce and Christine are the most welcoming and helpful of hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them. They also serve the "best breakfasts" - high praise indeed from my picky children. Evening meals are lovely too. We always look forward to staying at Dingley Lodge and would recommend without hesitation.

Thankyou Liz, it's been a pleasure to have you all come and stay with us every year. We've seen your family growing up and have looked forward to your visits. I guess all good things must come to an end, though, and we're as disappointed as you that English Heritage has decided not to hold its annual flagship event in this area again.
I know that one day you're planning to open your own B&B so we look forward to being able to write about you on Trip Advisor. I'm sure ours will be just as positive as the review you've written here.
Thanks again

We stopped for one night at the Dingley Lodge Hotel. Christine and Bruce were fabulous hosts, and went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. They went the extra mile to provide fantastic service and food to match the superb views on offer of the surrounding countryside and racecourse. We would definitely recommend the Dingley Lodge Hotel.

Thankyou Joe. We're lucky to live where we do. Living at Dingley Lodge has presented its challenges over the years but it's the sort of place that inspires you (one) to do the best you can. We do, I realise, take the views for granted and it's comments such as yours that help us appreciate just what we have on our doorstep.
We've been here a long time but never get tired of soaking up the atmosphere and, of course, of hearing people say good things about their stay with us.
Thankyou for your comments.

Stayed overnight recently with my husband and 12 year old son (we were in the area due to purchasing items from a local shop, so decided to stay overnight). Amazing location and views, and lovely comfortable room. Christine and Bruce were fantastic - very friendly and helpful; and even offered to give us a lift to a nearby restuarant. Definitely above and beyond the call of duty!
On arrival back at Dingley Lodge, Bruce and Christine were happy to serve us drinks, and stay to chat whilst my son and husband had a game of pool!
Breakfast was amazing!! Definitely the best we've ever had at any hotel or B&B. Catered to all tastes - from cereals and fruit - to a full english breakfast cooked to perfection!
In summary - we would definitely recommend Dingley Lodge Hotel (in fact, our son - Jacob, can't wait to go back!!!) :-)

Thankyou SusieQ for such praise. I guess when people are prepared to travel the extra mile to come and stay with us, it's only fair that we go the extra mile to look after them. We don't always get things right, as our previous reviewer will confirm, but we do try our best to please and people tend to be very forgiving when they understand that.
As for your family, it was a pleasure to have you stay with us and I do hope that Jacob's patience, in waiting to return, will one day be rewarded.
Thanks again.

My husband stayed here, his first impression is that it appears a little shabby, however once inside you appreciate that it has been sympathetically restored and an awful lot of work has been undertaken to restore it to its original floor plan from its previous use as flats.

The bar and lounge was in a bit of a pickle due to a recent family event but the bar was very well stocked and could have been quite a convivial experience. The dining room although dated had a particularly pleasing aspect with wonderful views over the local race course. The bedroom which I had was clean and tidy with an eclectic mix of slightly dated furniture and the bed could have been more comfy.

The bathroom was small however well laid out/appointed although the shower head would only have suited users under 5 foot tall and was unadjustable.

The hosts were very obliging and seemed quite happy to talk - being very engaging and full of information about the property which had an interesting history.

Breakfast was OK but not spectacular

I'd like to thank Roodeberglodge for this frank review. Looking after Dingley Lodge is a bit like working on the Forth Bridge and from time to time our attentions need to be focussed on aspects which need looking at. We don't always get things right eh!

Though our worst review so far on Trip Advisor, Roodeberglodge's words will serve to keep our feet firmly on the ground and we'll continue to learn, as we have since we opened in 1986. I confess to being a bit disappointed, but reading through some of his other reviews I feel we've probably got away quite lightly.

We realise that our tastes don't suit everybody but I confess that the 'eclectic mix' of furniture which Roodeberglodge mentions is deliberate. Many of the pieces were hand made by a real craftsman and we like to think this is preferable to the veneered chipboard or MDF which adorns many hotel rooms. We're working our way through the whole house, trying to upgrade and improve where we can, but it's a slow and rather expensive job which needs to be taken one step at a time. We'll get there eventually.

We do apologise for those aspects which Roodeberglodge found were below par.

For my part I enjoyed chatting to him about his unique motorcycle with its rotary engine, about the motorcycling course he was attending, about his times in South Africa, from where he hails, about his labrador, his house and the charity events which he organises on his village green.

Very best

Stayed overnight to break a long journey. Dingley Lodge is in a lovely location with great views over the peaceful Leicestershire countryside. Comfortable and well-equipped bedroom and a very generous breakfast. Don't forget to ask about the interesting history of the Lodge.

Thankyou for your supportive comments, Geoff. Because of our location we often have guests who are breaking their journeys in this way and we're grateful that, even after a short stay en-route, you've been prepared to go to the trouble of writing a review.
Hopefully you'll pop in again on your travels up and down the country.

Bruce and Christine were lovely hosts, very unobtrusive and accommodating.
Stunning views over the countryside and very quiet. Rooms are equipped with tea/coffee facilities, and hairdryer. Plenty of hot water and extremely comfortable beds. Rooms are decorated very nicely in keeping with the age of the house. Wonderful breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend, the only downside which could be rectified albeit at a cost which may then be reflected in the price, was although the bedrooms are lovely and warm the communal areas, the hallways, sitting/bar, dining room were a little chilly, there were convector heaters in the hallway and dining area and a large log burner in the sitting/bar area but despite this we felt it made it a little unpleasant to stay for too long.

Thankyou, buddyKas for your kind words. We're lucky to live in a lovely old house in a lovely place.
We'll do our best to respond to your criticism regarding additional heating. It's during weather like this that we wish we had the luxury of natural gas, instead of LPG.
Very best.

Christine and Bruce really do go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and to ensure you enjoy your stay. This started with the offer of tea on our arrival, which was a nice touch. The building is old and interesting with some stunning views, which we appreciated more on our second day when the rain and wind had subsided! There is an old fashioned feel to this small hotel, which means you get a larger than average room and electric blankets on the beds. The rooms are also warm with additional heat provided if you want to use it. The lounge has a lovely log burner too. The evening meal and breakfast was good home cooking and very pleasant. We had a busy schedule of visits to complete so didn't get to appreciate the immediate area or any walks but hopefully we'll return in better weather sometime.

Thankyou Sunset for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We realise that we can't compete with the facilities that many bigger hotels might have to offer but we do try to offer a more personal service to compensate. In return our guests seem to appreciate the small touches like a cup of tea and being able to sit beside a roaring fire.
We look forward to meeting you again when, hopefully, you'll be able to take time out to relax.
Thankyou for coming to stay with us.
