“Staff Christmas Meal”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

I had heard mixed views on the Splash, but unfortunately it turned out not to be so good. The waitresses seemed to disappear once we had been given our food, no one enquired to ask if the food was fine, the food was cold, turkey & beef came with gravy already on it and after asking for gravy the waitress came by our table and was asked again for the gravy we were told the chef had thrown it away. We felt we were being rushed, so didn't even bother waiting for our deserts and coffee. After paying £26 per head it wasn't value for money and left very disappointed.

The pub itself is lovely, very clean and picturesque. What let this place down was the lack of service from taking a very long time to take our order, getting the drinks wrong, getting the condiments wrong, no apology for the long wait, the abrupt response when we did enquire about the food, no one asked us if the food was ok, we had to get up and ask for more drinks, no friendliness etc I could go on. The food was ok but the way we were treated left a bad taste in my mouth.

Stayed on the 6th Oct for one night. The accommodation was lovely and very quaint and atmospheric. The bar area was like stepping back in time to a proper English country pub, which this essentially is with the bonus of a restaurant added on. I had the steak and stilton pie and have to say it was the best I've ever tasted. Wholly recommend.

Room Tip: stayed in room 4 small and lovely

We spent last weekend here for a surprise 60th birthday. The staff were great and entered Into the spirit of the surprise. Food is good and plentiful, beer garden is lovely, shame the weather wasn't. Room was large and clean with everything we needed. Good shower over bath. Breakfast was good and served when we wanted it. The location is lovely with the ford at the entrance. The pub was very busy all the time with all ages of people made welcome, from toddlers to grannies. Free wifi a great help as neither of us could get a mobile phone signal. Overall it was good value for money and the staff were pleasant and helpful. It was a long way for us from Edinburgh but we do intend to return in the future.

Room Tip: Room 7 is a large corner room overlooking the garden in the modern extension. Room one overlooks th...

My family made a reservation for my Auntie's Birthday. There was 9 of us.

The pub is lovely and is in a great location. The food when we eventually got it, was nice but overpriced.

The Service was DREADFUL, never seen such misrable waitress. Not once did they ask if we wanted drinks, not once did they ask us if we was all ok. Some of our party had starters, some didn't. The table was booked for 7.30 PM, our main meal was delivered to the table at 5 Minutes to 9. We went to the bar for our drinks and we had to find the waitress's to ask to order. Mistakes were made with both starters and mains.

I would suggest training in customer service is requried.

A Special Occasion was Spoiled.

We stayed here for the bank holiday weekend, it was in a really nice setting, a small stream to go through hence the name " The Splash " the beer garden is very spacious, a playhouse ideal for children. Stayed in room 1, everything in there that you need, beds comfy plenty of storage, bathroom fab, Free wi-fi. The meals that were being served looked plentiful & tasty. Breakfast was very filling :) would definatly stay here again.

My wife & I arrived in the late afternoon after a long drive from Holland through the tunnel. The sun was still shining so we had a pleasant drink in the garden behind the Inn. Later when it started pouring with rain we realised where the Splash name came from as the adjacent ford became impassable. We checked into a very comfortable room on the first floor at the front far away from any noise from the bar. We then had an excellent bar meal. The next evening we tried the restaurant for our evening meal. This was also very good. The 2 breakfasts were ate were what you might expect from a friendly well-run English Inn. All-in-all a positive experience and a place to return to.

Room Tip: As far away from the bar as possible unless you intend to be in the bar yourself all evening.
