“Comfortable, but basic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 January 2014

We stopped at the Pack Horse as a bit of a trip down memory lane for me. I used to drink there when it was a pub in the 80s, and was in Louth visiting friends and family.

We spent 3 nights in room 4, the double room at the back, which was spacious, basic, and reasonably clean (quite a few cobwebs and dust above head height, shower head needed de-scaling).The TV was a tad on the small side given the size of the room, and we had no wifi coverage. No sign of the complimentary bottle of wine.

The first night there was quite a bit of noise from below until about 2230, and every morning at 0730 the fruit and veg shop next door took a delivery which involved someone using a castor wheeled trolley on a cobbled pathway!

The food in 'Smokey Joe's' downstairs was good, and the servings were big, but unless you like Tex/Mex then you couldn't eat their every night. Breakfast was good, with enough choice to fuel us up til lunch.

All in all the Pack Horse was average, and suitable as a central base for getting out and about to explore Louth on foot. If you want all mod cons and that little bit extra, look elsewhere.

Room Tip: It's in the town center, so expect a degree of noise no matter which room you're in.

We arrived very early: No problem heavy bags were taken to our room. We were able to see our room being prepared to a high standard. Lot better than not knowing what your room is like. .Everyone from booking, asking questions, being there and leaveing were professional. After good nights sleep in comfy twin beds we had breakfast. Score for service and produce would be 10+. Thank you very much. We are mum and daughter 21+. We so look forward to returning in 2014. Thank you very much

Room Tip: Twin room 3, but only if we not there!!!!

What a gem ! We stayed overnight in Louth to go to the Elvis Event at the Town Hall, we stayed here in room 4, although plain and basic it had the most comfortable king sized bed ever.
We had a burger meal in Smokey Joes which was also superb and the breakfast was also nice.
It is set in the most perfect location in the town, the wife and sister in law went shopping and I went to Kenwick Park golf course which is only 5 minutes away by car.
The staff are all excellent and made us feel at home.
I would recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Room 4 just for the amazing bed with the £1000.00 mattress!

So conveniently located for us in the lovely town of Louth, the Packhorse Inn suits our needs perfectly. It is a fairly priced hotel and this must be born in mind.
The view is terrible and a few things grate like having to 'phone to be let in on arrival and here's us without a mobile.
Thankfully, a passing stranger helped us out with his mobile!
Parking can be a test of resolve too.
However, the rooms are clean and comfortable with free wi-fi, the staff are great and host Wendy is a real star for whom nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast is good and you just walk out of the place into the centre of town.
You really can't ask for more for the money.
This was our second visit and plan to be there again next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: Away from the street is a good choice.

We stayed here for one night while visiting friends and the double room was lovely.
It was clean, very spacious and comfortable. There were only 4 rooms and ours was at the back of the building so it was nice and quite. We had to go in to the American diner to check in and the staff were all friendly. We didn't have the breakfast as we wanted to sleep in but the room was very nice and comfortable.

Room Tip: There are two doubles and one of them is at the front of the building by the main road and is very s...

We stayed here to attend a wedding at Kenwick park for 2 nights as it was cheaper then staying at Kenwick park. The room was fine and covered our basic needs and was close enough to the venue.

Breakfast was nice both mornings. Hotel was fine but do wish we had paid to stay at Kenwick park with the rest of the wedding party

We arrived around 3.00 pm to find a locked hotel, we had to phone up to get someone to open up, the room was up to standard but we were disturbed by the traffic noise from the street below. Further disappointment in the morning as breakfast wasn't available, this may be a one off as it was Easter Bank holiday?

Room Tip: Choose a superior room.
