This is the sort of place you find by accident and want to keep to yourselves as it is so good. We stayed in Willow and accommodation is of very high standard 5 * + with ensuites to all bedrooms (3) with equipment at the high end. If this is not enough it has a games room and an excellent and friendly pub within walking distance. Added to this Nicky and David are excellent host and made us all feel welcome and wanting to return. We all left wishing to return.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Ridge Hall Cottages, and won't be the last by any means!! We have stayed in both Acorn & Catkin Cottages and both are of suberb quality A*+, they are furnished with absolute taste, the appliances and kitchen are of the highest standard for a holiday let, and the beds are to die for, we are now purchasing one of the same for ourselves. Nicky's hospitality is second to none, and with regard to the previous review on here about their dog last year, the Bamford's no longer have a dog on the property as I believe she died late last year. Location is a little out of the way which suits us fine, and anybody who is looking for peace and tranquility, it is very easy to find though, and is in walking distance of the main village and the sea.
Overall we wouldn't stay anywhere else in that area of Yorkshire, and there is an awful lot to chose between.

Room Tip: All of excellent quality, different sizes to fit different requirements.

Following a holiday that we had at Ridge Hall in 2011 we decided to come back in 2012 to this delightful holiday cottage, with excellent accommodation, clean and with a friendly welcome.
How different as this holiday turned into a holiday nightmare as when we arrived and went to collect our keys for our 4 night short break and our lovely Cavalier King Charles dog was attacked by another dog, Gemma, owned by the owners father, who lives with them. The end result being that our dog has lost her right eye. What has made this whole nightmare more painful it was admitted that the dog was bad tempered so this was something that could have been prevented by the owners?
Nicky was very helpful when the incident occurred and gave her word that they would pay the vet bills but she has gone back on her word and only paid part of the bills as well as charging us for the ruined holiday though we only stayed so as not to give our dog a long journey home after her trauma and also wanting to stay near the vet who had operated on her in case of any complications.
So all in all a nightmare holiday and so disappointed in Nicky not keeping her word. If you a planning a holiday here then buyer beware…

We were blown away by the wonderful cottage and the amazing hospitality shown by Nicky and David. The cottage had all the mod cons and a wonderful log burning fire which gives the cottage a very cosy feeling.

The views are amazing and we have been back several times and look forward to many more trips!

Room Tip: We have stayed many times in the Acorn Cottage, But all the others look wonderful

We have just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend at this fabulous retreat. Spotlessly clean, faultlessly equiped. From the truly warm welcome to the equally warm log burning stove this weekend was just chill out time. Set in stunning countryside within "challenging" walking distance of the lovely village of Staithes. Within 10 miles radius of Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay etc. If you want a home from home without the traffic this is the place.

  • Liked — High specification of fixtures & fittings & log burning stove
  • Disliked — Cannot think of anything!
