“Not really the description it states”
Reviewed 11 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

Not very good at al. Staithes is lovely and the location of the cottage is fantastic but the cottage definately needs a lot of TLC and cash spending on it. There are many things wrong and I am not going to itemise other than the main things at are the sideboard which is awfull and the black putrid water from the flowers left since Christmas, overall the cleanliness was not good at all.

“Beautiful Staithes but not cottage”
Reviewed 1 March 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Let's start with a positive, Staithes is a beautiful village with a great atmosphere and very welcoming locals. The location of Safe Harbour cottage is fantastic.

The cottage is charming but needs a considerable amount of work to make it a comfortable retreat. Again a positive the main bedroom has a super king bed and it is very comfortable.
The problems were with the outdoor seating - very tired furniture, no access to the higher level seating area from inside ? Lock broken, from outside the door looked rotten so maybe this was the problem.
The towel rail in the bathroom was the only source of heat and this was not working making the bathroom cold, sellotape had been put over the switch to stop activation indicating an electrical fault. Likewise there was a storage heater on the landing that had a note saying not to switch off so again obviously electrical faults throughout.
The washing machine was very smelly and had someone else's clothesline in and rank water obviously not checked prior to our check in.
All of these are small issues but mount up when the cottage is not cheap to rent.
Unfortunately, I approached Sykes cottages with these issues and they did not believe the issues existed as the owner told them they didn't.
I do not do negative postings but due to the feedback and customer service I decided to go ahead with a negative posting re the owner and Sykes.

“Great location, cosy cottage but a little tired”
Reviewed 22 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Staithes is a lovely seaside village and Safe Harbour is in a great spot, just a short walk to the sea but nestled among quaint cottages. The first floor is quite spacious but downstairs is smaller, with a rather cramped living area. The decor is somewhat tired in places, especially the bathroom. However, the cottage is cosy and comfortable.

We were surprised that there was no welcome pack of any kind, not even a pint of milk and a few tea bags. On the plus side, the housekeeper and handyman live just across the road and responded immediately when necessary.

Great wi fi!

“Fantastic seaside retreat- amazing place.”
Reviewed 24 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Stayed at the Safe Harbour Cottage for a romantic break away from reality. We weren't disappointed - SHC is a beautifully renovated retreat in a breathtaking hidden gem of a village. The Owner has spared no expense in fitting out the cottage with all the mod cons (even smart TV with broadband) and some lovely finishing touches, the open fire an large comfy sofa perfect. Ample size for at least 6 adults or suitable for family use. The rental was as smooth as it could be- very reasonably priced, again the owner puts enough effort and obviously cares that you enjoy the time spent in Staithes. Evenings in Staithes is a little quite at this time of year but it was perfect for us, Whitby town is just 10 min away.
Will defo be returning for a longer stay in 2015.
