Superb lunch of pea and mint soup with huge chunks of lovely granary bread. Tea and lemon drizzel cake later after a tour around the abbey ruins. The decor gave the perfect atmosphere to our veiw of the abbey from the windows. Definately recommend stopping here!

We came across The Abbey Inn by accident when we were diverted along some country lanes on the way to Pickering & was pleasantly surprised. It was a warm, holiday Monday & we sat outside in the garden, in the shadow of Byland Abbey.
The Inn was beautiful with a fascinating mixture of interesting furniture & alcoves.
We ordered coffee, pot of tea, pork pie salad & cheese salad which came to £15.75. The food was excellent & everything was very fresh & tasty with a really good coleslaw & relish. As the salads were a decent size we didn't feel the need to indulge in the tempting cakes & scones! Maybe next time!
The Inn is well worth a visit & I'm so pleased we were diverted or we may never have come across this hidden gem!

My family took a trip out on bank holiday Monday, we live in Thirsk & headed for Sutton Bank but came across Abby Inn first. My father had celebrated his 70th Birthday there a few years ago and because we saw a sign for tea room we called in. Weather lovely, fantastic atmosphere, amazing view but more importantly Victoria sandwich cake to die for! The service was friendly and with free refills of coffee we felt very spoilt. So glad to have a tea room of such standards on our doorstep.

Enjoyed a visit to the abbey (beautiful floor tiles!) but very much enjoyed a visit to the abbey Inn. The inn is cosy and extremely pretty. We sat in a room to the right as you enter with absolutely fantastic views of the abbey, and even more interestingly, sculptured faces in the brickwork (reliably informed by staff that this was a local artist's tribute to the dead of World War One). The waitress Rachel was lovely, and very happy to talk to us at length (though I'm sure she had better things to be doing). The staff were so friendly and happy to ask our questions about the abbey and the inn. A pot of tea and half a delicious brownie each, we were on our way.. With the intention of returning to stay at this beautiful peaceful place. Highly recommended.

We were visiting Byland Abbey (which is well worth a look) and decided to stop and have lunch at the Abbey Inn, and we were very glad we did. The food was excellent, fresh and plenty of it! My partner & I had the sandwiches which were like doorsteps, the Wensleydale very tasty and the apple chutney delicious. The two others in our party had the sharing platter which was excellent, and included pork pie, ham, cheese, salad, pickled onions, hunks of bread etc. The usual fayre for a ploughman's I know, but this was very fresh and substantial. We hadn't realised that it was also a B & B; it would be a lovely place to stay the next time we are in Yorkshire.

How many places can you stay and have a view from your bedroom of an ancient Abbey! Large, comfortable room. Very attentive staff who was prepared to do anything to make us happy--even sent us on our way with home baked scones!! Delicious breakfasts. Very quiet and comfortable room.We stayed for 3 nights and explored the beautiful countryside.Walk to the nearby pub Wombwell Arms for some great food

Room Tip: No pool-- accidental fill in!
