“Old style hospitality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from a two night break at Newburgh House and would thoroughly recommend it, its a beautiful old house situated next to a lake which oozed old world charm. The owners Suzy & Colin keep both the house & garden beautifully and are very hospitable making you feel most welcome and Suzy was very helpful with tips about where to visit and places to eat.The room we had was spacious and comfortably furnished overlooking the beautiful garden and immaculate, possibly the only small drawback was the absence of a shower and as it only had a bath it took a bit longer to get ready, but so what we were there to relax and time wasn't limited. The breakfast was very good, local produce freshly cooked at the time you request with plenty of choice.Coxwold is a small quiet village ideally situated to explore this lovely area and we wouldn't hesitate to return in future.

We booked three rooms at this wonderful Wolsey Lodge. Suzy and Colin, the owners, couldn't have been more helpful and Colin's breakfasts were fantastic. Our room was bright and airy with a spacious bathroom and the other two rooms were more than comfortable. The gardens were lovely and the weather amazing. This really is a beautiful part of Yorkshire. All in all I couldn't recommend Newburgh House more highly.

Room Tip: If you can book the main bedroom overlooking the road, it is really lovely and also very quiet as th...

Nice house, well kept in a lovely setting. It was right on the road and our bedroom overlooked the road but it was very quiet at night. The bedroom and bathroom were clean but a little on the "tired" side.

Over the years I have visited many Wolsey Lodges and this was the worst breakfast I have had at one. The bacon was dried out, the scrambled egg inedible. The porridge was salted - which I know is the traditional Scottish way of doing things - but it would have been nice to have been warned in advance. The tomatoes were nice, the mushrooms passable but the fried bread was black from the mushrooms and also inedible. I did not have time to ask for these faults to put right and I am sure they would have been.

Looking at the other visitors' comments it would appear that I have been unlucky or I am hyper-critical, although it is worth saying that my daughter also had the same views.

The gardens are very well tended with well grown vegetables.

I stayed for two nights at Newburgh House. The location was wonderful and on entering the house, the smell of beeswax polish was indicative of just how well the house was maintained. The owners (Suzy and Colin) couldn't have been nicer and I just loved their delightful little dog.

I had a large, comfortable and peaceful room at the front with a fabulous view out of the window. The bathroom was enormous. This was to the side of the house and also had a lovely view. Also you would have thought there was a team maintaining the gardens - but only Colin (one of the owners) does it. It was simply splendid.

Breakfast was served in a delightful room overlooking the garden. Choice was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. I also had a light evening meal each of the two nights I stayed. All excellent.

Well worth a stay and I shall certainly go back.

Room Tip: You don't need to worry - they're all really nice.

A very warm and friendly atmosphere. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
Plently of selection for Breakfast with as much or as little as you wont. Superbly well maintined garden, Newburgh House is in a good location to explore the North Yorkshire Moors.

This was our second stay at Newburgh House. The first visit was last year for a short weekend of which were so impressed that this second stay was for our week long "HONEYMOON :-)
The room we were allocated seemed to be tucked away in a private quarter seperated by a door then a small corridor. The room was absolutely gorgeous it was huge with a seating area with lovely setees and ornate chairs a tv and a massive super king size bed. We had our own large private bathroom.
The breakfast was fabulous so tasty ( food locally sourced) and filling with different options.
Sue and colin the owners were so lovely and helpful they recommended several places of interest for us to visit and eat and even booked a table at a restaurant for us.
Fantastic B+B
Fantastic Hosts
Superb Customer service!!
All the superlatives used in this review are well deserved :-)

A beautiful old house that smelt of beeswax..lots of interesting paintings too.
We spent a comfortable night in a beautiful room and enjoyed a delicious breakfast watching a myriad of birds ..we counted 9... 10 if you count the owl I heard at night. All's well that ends well.
