We stayed for two nights in the red room. It is very comfortable with a huge bed, a relaxing seating area and a large bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. The room has windows on 3 sides overlooking the garden and the countryside. The meals were very good - everything you could want for breakfast taken in the breakfast room which overlooks the garden where you can watch the birds and squirrels - delightful. Dinner was very nicely cooked and served in the dining room where there is a long shared table. There is a lovely open fire in the lounge which is good for pre-dinner drinks. The area is fantastic with lovely countryside, picturesque little villages and lots to see and do. We would love to return some time.

I will save time by endorsing everything the previous reviewer wrote. We really couldn’t find fault if we tried. We had a huge bedroom at the front of the house with an enormous en-suite bathroom. The main road through the village runs in front of the house, but it is perfectly quiet – and I am sensitive to road noise! There are also rooms at the back facing the attractive gardens.

We didn’t see or hear anything from ‘Mr. Newburgh Guest House’ but Suzie was very friendly and attentive. We had the four course dinner, but it was so generous that we could easily have managed with the two course supper. The breakfast choice was extensive and excellent.

Newburgh House is a character building renovated to a very high standard and privately owned by Susie and Colin Bell. We booked this B and B for a weekend away for a friends wedding at Byland Abbey.

Absolutely stunning part of the country to start with, but we were then treated to superbly furnished rooms, comfortable beds, spacious bathroom with power shower. The attention to detail was endless, from books and knick knacks in the rooms to games in the guest lounge. Stunning artwork and architecture to take your breath away and curiosities crowd every corner, all put together so effortlesly you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a private residence and not in a bed and breakfast hidden away in the Yorkshire countryside.

Breakfast on vintage Wedgewood? You got it. Tea on Minton china? Its in the room. Binoculars to watch the wildlife making the most of an idyllic english country garden? They are on the window sill in the dining room. Nothing was too much trouble, and the fantastic breakfast was just a very large and well cooked bonus. Even though we cant say enough about Newburgh House, for once the Elf was lost for words, and that doesnt happen very often!
