Having read previous reviews we were very concerned about our short break and considered cancelling. So glad we didn’t, everything was perfect. Staff on arrival were friendly and helpful, our room clean and appeared to have been newly furnished. Bathroom had clearly also been recently updated. Best of all was the amazing view from our balcony, all this for £88.
Breakfast could not be faulted with good hot and cold food and friendly staff.
Must visit the sculptures in the ground to finish your stay

Room Tip: high room for best view

Our Townswomen's Guild ladies walking group from Minehead, have just come back from a great few days at the Longmynd Hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent especially the evening meals, and the Italian evening was a nice surprise. Nice touch organising our group to have coffee after dinner on our own in the lounge. The hotel in set in beautiful woodland and the views are spectacular. We all had a great time. It was good value for money. Many thanks to all at Longmynd for a geat holiday.

We stayed here after staying in a wonderful hotel not very far away. What a contrast! We were shown to a room that was no more than a box room, nowhere to place your luggage, very little clothes storage and a bathroom that was also very small. We realised immediately that we couldn't stay there and asked for an upgrade. We were given the Kingfisher Suite which was big w ith fourposter bed which we had difficulty climbing into. There was no luggage rack so our case had to go on top of chest of drawers. There was a big second room, sparsley furnished with small two seater setee and a couple of upright chairs. The bathroom was through this room which was not very convenient at night. It had a three corner bath (couldn't lie down) and a shower that didn't work and even if it had there was no shower curtain or high hook to hang it from. Some of the lights didn't work, only 2 plastic glasses, two bottles of water which were not replaced the second day. We removed the heavy quilt from the bed and left it on the floor, nowhere else to put it, and after our room was cleaned? next day it was still as we had left it, so obviously the floor was not cleaned. TV wasn't much use either but that may not have been fault of hotel. As for the restaurant there were not enough staff to cope with the number of guests so service was not of the best. Food average. One night we were told we had to eat early or very late and so we booked 6.30 but were left waiting in the bar where they forgot to give us the menu and finally had our meal after 7.30 although peoplle who were booked in later had theirs first. I could go on about indiffernt reception staff etc.Not a good experience and not to be repeated. What a shame, its a lovely location.

We have just returned from a weekend in the Longmynd Hotel, after some of the reviews I read before going was concerned this had gone down hill from when we stayed many times in the past, I need not have worried, the food was as good as ever, the service very friendly and efficiant as always, and the relaxed atmosphere is still second to none. We had great rooms with superb views. The staff in all areas were great thank you very much for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor we had a room at the back and my sister a room at the front both were gre...

We stayed here for a weekend in September 2011 as part of a large family gathering, including the booking of 7 rooms and lunch for over 30 people on the Sunday. We had to cancel one single room three weeks before arriving and the management refused to refund the £25 deposit on the room because less than 28 days' notice had been given. I find this absolutely extraordinary given the amount of money they made out of our group. They did however refund the premium on a suite which I had not believed that I had booked, but which we ended up staying in.

This hotel used to be a peach. My parents celebrated their engagement here and other members of our group have used the hotel for celebrations/weddings over the years. The location remains fabulous (some trees could do with cutting back to restore the view from the function rooms). The grounds are wooded with some nice footpaths and sculptures. However, the fabric of the hotel is now woeful in terms of the under-investment and indeed, per other comments, feels like an old people's home, with leatherette sofas, terrible secondary glazing and a very high ambient temperature. I had to keep going outside to take a breather and cool off.

On the upside, the outdoor pool was heated, pretty clean and an OK size. The food generally was good and some of it was very good, although the restaurant manager's manner was unnecessarily sharp. I would echo previous reviews that this is potentially a good place to go and eat rather than stay.

I also hope that there is a plan for re-investment in this hotel. It does not deserve to go into such a decline and such a fabulous site justifies something very special.

Room Tip: Ask for a valley view, from a high floor. Rooms at the back tend to be darker

Firstly can I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to post your review. I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed our restaurant and pool facilities during your stay. However, I am disappointed that our terms and conditions have affected your stay with us. As a hotel we are always looking of ways to improve our product and feed back we receive (good or bad) allows us to do this. Best wishes The Operations Manager

Our stay was in one of the self catering lodges within the hotel grounds. The lodge was very dirty. Cobwebs everywhere. We pulled the bed away from the wall and there were cobwebs all over the back of the bed. The kitchen cupboards felt sticky with grease and the cooker hood was filthy. toaster did not work and microwave dirty and old. Sink draining rack was very dirty. Showerhead still had hair on it from previous occupants. Bedside cabinets were very dirty. Bed was hard and duvet too small . The only good thing about this place is the location. It's a shame that the lodges have been neglected in so many ways .

Here at the Longmynd Hotel we strive to maintain our reputation of providing quality, clean accommodation to all our guests. Over the past few months we have been working hard to continue to improve our product, yet still making it available at a reliable price to all of our customers. On this occasion we do not seem to have met your expectations for which I can only apologise. Our Managers and housekeeping team are dedicated to providing an excellent service to all our customers, and regularly assess the services we provide to enable us to improve our customers stay.

Many of your observations from your stay are basic errors on our part for which I can only apologise, and can I assure you that we have now improved procedures to ensure that these never happen again. Kind Regards The Operations Manager

We stayed here for two nights in Sept 2011 to do the Ludlow Food Festival (fantastic btw, thoroughly worth going to). This is a privately owned hotel that is probaly accurate in being descibed as 3 star. The room we stayed in was clean with fantastic views from the balcony where we could have sat had the weather allowed; the TV worked but could have been bigger for the size of the room; the towels were thick and fluffy; the shower was a pathetic dribble!
We had an evening meal on the Friday in the restaurant and must have brough the average age down considerably and we're late 40's! The mains were fine but the leek and potato soup of the day was insipid - watery, tasteless and it goes against the grain for me to add salt but I had to. Service was a bit hit and miss too - they did me a free glass of wine to be fair tho'. Breakfast the next morning was poor compared to the service on Sunday when there were different staff on duty: tea and toast took a long time to arrive.
The hotel is ideally situated for the great walks avialble in the area. Oh, the food at The Clive in Bromfield on the A49 on the way to Ludlow was fantastic on Saturday evening
