“Wait until renovations are completed”
Reviewed 13 May 2012

This hotel is in a fabulous location, particularly if you are a walker, and has a very friendly relaxed atmosphere. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. We ate in the hotel restaurant for evening meals which we thought was very good value. Thursday evening was Italian night and we had two courses for £10 each, Friday we had steak, chips, veg & peppercorn sauce plus a glass of wine for £14 each.
However, at the moment there are renovations being carried out to the exterior of the hotel which spoilt what would have been a lovely view from our room.
We stayed with a kgb deal, which was excellent value, but would have been disappointed if we had paid the full price for the room as it is at the moment. We were disappointed that they wanted to charge us £120 more to stay an extra night.
We would definately recommend this hotel, and may stay here again, but not until the scaffolding comes down!

Stayed for 5 nights Apr-May. Hotel has old fashioned charm - rooms may be a bit dated but mine was clean and comfortable. Staff were all helpful and the food was excellent. There was a party of dog-walkers staying the weekend I was there but the dogs certainly didn't bother me (they were quieter than the noisy human neighbours I had for one night!). Lovely setting - excellent area for walking - would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Rooms at back have best views. Rooms with baths rather than showers have larger bathrooms

My friend and I stayed here 1-3 May with our 2 dogs Erol & Neville in the Falcon suite. What an absolute GEM of a place from the moment we stepped inside to reception we were made to feel really welcome, our room was exceptionally clean and a very good size, beds were very comfortable and the bed linen was very clean and fresh and what a fabulous view to wake up to of the the hills in the distance miles and miles of green. Breakfast full English was superb and the service was very efficient with cheerful polite staff, I also recommend trying the porridge. The hotel is in a fabulous location and the woodland walk in the hotel grounds was great for the dogs. The hotel inside was very clean and had a very relaxed atmosphere, no music blaring away just peace and quiet making it easy to talk to other guests and take in the whole ambiance of the hotel, it was like going back in time but in a good way, all staff members we encountered were polite and helpful and actually spoke rather than just grunting !!! Really would have loved to of stayed a few more days. Will definitely be going back this year, a truly stunning and enchanting place to stay, makes a refreshing change to get away from the majority of dregs that make up society today.

This hotel has always been my favourite place to stay until I stayed friday night with my husband for our wedding anniversary and was met by dogs. Dogs barking and wondering around the hotel. We felt like we were staying in kennals. It's a beautiful hotel. splended location. the scaffolding spoils it a bit but that can't be helped. There was only two waitresses serving breakfast who were run off their feet. I felt sorry for them. I'm not sure if we will stay again. It's a great shame. I have a dog but I wouldn't take it to stay in an hotel.

Room Tip: Facing the A49, nice views over the hills.

Spent a couple of nights there before Easter. The hotel was clean and is in a great location - especially for walkers. But the food was disappointing - very tempting menus but failed to live up to the expectation, even the full English breakfast was rather dry. The room was comfortable but whilst the bathroom was fully tiled, heated towel rail and a nice vanity unit - there was no shower (so had to use the bath, no wonder the UK is short of water) or hair dryer. Overall not impressed and there was a mistake with the bill.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a shower if that is your preference

Recently visited this hotel with a group of 20 people (10 couples) on a two day walking and golfing holiday.

The basics are all there the food was good, the staff excellent, the rooms clean, the views from the back over the valley wonderful. The hotel though is tired and in desperate need of refurbishment and some TLC.

The rooms were dated. As the group organisers we were given a suite which was roomy and comfortable with a four poster bed and a great view which was very nice but very old fashioned in terms of appearance.

I sincerely hope that the group owners have plans to invest in the infrastructure of the hotel as the potential to make this an outstanding hotel is there.

Having said that we all enjoyed our stay and it was good value for a group involved in activities as we were. I do not think though I would recommend it for a romantic getaway for two or indeed a family weekend.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back for the best view
