We rang Merv at Southview on the off chance of pitching two caravans to include the Whitsun bank holiday. When we arrived we were treated to an altogether wonderful view of the valley below as the site is quite high. It’s actually in Wall Under Heywood, near Church Stretton without a large supermarket to be seen for miles. It’s at least 12 miles to the nearest one which is Sainsbury’s. But worry not because there is a Co-Op in Church Stretton, which although relatively small, meets all your needs. You do hear the occasional baa from some sheep in a nearby field and some bird chatter of course but it is a calm oasis. The site is beautifully laid out with grass and a flower bed in the middle with nine pitches all around with three being used as seasonal pitches leaving six which can be booked. The toilets and shower couldn’t be cleaner and instead of a hole in the ground the chemical disposal station has an actual toilet sunk into it which can also be flushed. Now there’s a sense of humour! Merv is a wonderful character who loves to have a chat with you occasionally but also leaves you alone to do your own thing. Telford with its famous Iron Bridge, Jackson Tile Museum and Coalport Museum takes a little over half an hour to reach and it takes about the same time to reach Shrewsbury.
