We drove up on to the top and visited the viewpoint via a short walk. The kids loved the open air and stalking the sheep. Fabulous 360 degree views.

One point to note – don’t drive up via the Portway from the south end unless you have a fabulous head for heights! The road is about 1 in 4 with a terrific drop down the side and it is only one car wide.

Walked up from Carding Mill Valley via Motts Road onto the top of Long Mynd and over other side - wonderful heather in flower and lovely fragrance. Pole Bank toposcope is great fun and the pemissive path to the western side of the Gliding Club is nice, Great views and you can walk as long or short as you like - enjoy!

We walked on Long Mynd a few times during our week in Church Stretton. You access for example via Carding Mill Valley and can take several different walks. The tourist office has some more walks in a small handwritten guide book. It's beautiful, peaceful, not too difficult and also lot of sheep, which I like. Even wild horses! Get a picknick lunch from the deli shop in Church Stretton and off you go! During weekends there are buses you can take part of the way, or hop off wherever it suits you.

Spent a full day on The Mynd and had a really enjoyable day. I always thought you had to go to the Peaks or Lakes to enjoy breath taking scenery but I now know different. The area is beautiful with photo opportunities a plenty, from the wild ponies to the silent gliders in the air.
You can walk up the many footpaths or even take a drive up on the narrow twisty road.
