“A hidden Gem”
Reviewed 23 May 2011

Well, all the reviews are accurate. This place was faultless. The accomodation had everything you could need gadget wise, including an I Pod dock, hairdryer and straighteners, and Sky +. A lovely touch was the bottle of wine left for us, and milk in the fridge. The best thing about the cottage was the views, especially from the bedroom. we left the doors in the bedroom open all night, and loved the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.Blue, the dog had a great time too!It was my birthday weekend, and we went for a lovely meal, a five minute walk away, at the Weir, in Millers at The Anchor. The food was tasty, and the sourroundings quirky and homely. Great base to explore from, I don't often say I will return, as like to explore, but The Stable Block ticked all boxes, and we are sure to come back.

The Stable Block was the perfect place for a quiet and peaceful stay. There were many thoughtful touches including milk in the fridge and a welcome bottle of wine. The owners were friendly yet discreet. The views out over the bay are magnificent. I would definitely recommend this accommodation and look forward to returning.

We've just come back from an Easter break staying at The Stables and we honestly couldn't think of anywhere better to stay in Porlock. The Stables from the outside is deceptively small - looks almost hobbit sized, but once inside the conversion is just so well done and really spacious - definitly worth it's 5* status. All mod cons in the kitchen along with complemetary biscuits and wine and every useful utenstil you can think of! Upstairs is just gorgeous too and even with a very tall husband this wasn't a problem! The bed is comfy (something all too often over looked at cottages and b&b's) with luxury feather/down duvet - a home from home. What is extra special is the view from all of the windows overlooking Porlock Bay - you can watch the sun rise directly from your bedroom window and last thing at night you can watch the stars (and satellites) twinkling overhead as some genius installed a Velux window directly over the bed. Also included is a hairdryer and straighteners ladies! The only thing I would suggest is better lighting and a stool for the dressing table.

Outside you have you own decking patio overlooking a pretty, quaint garden and because of the elevation you look directly over Porlock Bay. I could have stared at the view all day, it's so peaceful, the only sound being that of twittering birds and we were lucky to have hotter weather than the South of France for the week.

I stayed at St Anthonys Cottage for a long weekend with my boyfriend. The location is perfect and the cottage has wonderful views where you could easily spend a few hours just watching the sea.
The cottage is very well maintained and very comfortable. The kitchen contains every utensil you could possible need!
This is definately a place we would visit again.

My husband and I stayed here for a mini honeymoon for a week. We stayed in the stable block, and were delighted. It was nice to have modern stylish decor, yet still retaining some of the old features. What stunning views! As the electric gates open, the view took my breath away, every-time!

Location - It is a short walk to Porlock Weir. We ate at Andrews on the weir (expensive, but nice for a special night), and the bottom Ship pub (value for money home cooked pub food). To get into the village it is about a 40minute walk, or a few minutes in the car. There is loads to do in the area, be it driving, or walking. We visited Dunster, and Dunster Castle, drove to Woolacombe for a beautiful beach and went to Brendon for a famous cream tea. There is so much to do you wont get board!

Value for money - Whilst there are places that are cheaper in and around Porlock, they do not look a patch on this modern apartment. I definitely think it is value for money.

Thanks to Caroline & Christopher for looking after us.

Stayed here with partner and 2 friends and our dog - perfect!!
The cottage is stunning with amazing views, clean, very warm and very comfortable. Top end fittings and amazingly comfy beds
The garden is very secure and huge so brilliant for our energectic dog.
Its like being in a special valley as the rest of the country is under a blanket of snow with sub zero temperatures and Porlock is green and beautiful.
Pretty good pub in Porlock Weir which serves traditional pub food.
Cant recommend Chapel Knap cottages highly enough - this was our second visit and will definitely go again.
