Had a long weekend in early July. The location is fantastic as was the view fom our bedroom (room 5). The staff are really friendly and there is a great atmosphere. The real ale festival was on next door which was an added bonus. The breakfasts were very good. We had an evening meal on our first night which although it was very good was very expensive with an added 10% service charge. The en suite bathroom was of a good size and modern although it took an age for the water to get hot enough for a shower. I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing break.

Park the car and walk through the door to be welcomed by an atmosphere so unique in a hotel. Perhaps there is a wait for a receptionist but does that matter ? There is so much to take in Time stands still and with the views of the harbour relaxation is on the menu. Staff friendly and attentive. Rooms spacious and thoughtfully decorated. Just a gem

Room Tip: Probably harbour view

I cannot rate Millers at the Anchor highly enough. A truly unique gem of a place that I was so sad to leave. Monica on reception gave us such a warm welcome and throughout our stay the staff were highly attentive always on hand if we needed anything. The view from the harbour view rooms are simply stunning and now we are back in London hugely missed! Our restaurant experience was just as good. Simply one of those rare places that you are so happy to have found and experienced, leaving you with very special memories. I look forward to the day when we can return and experience the magic all over again. Thank you for an amazing weekend Millers at the Anchor!

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms are a must!

Not the sort of place we usually stay, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless.
We only booked 2 days previously so not much room choice available but we had room 14 which was newly decorated, the bathroom was poor but as it was for only 1 night we didn't mind too much. Our son had room 10, which is dog friendly so the dog stayed in there too, I would imagine this room is really only big enough for one person, although there is a small double bed.
Porlock Weir is a lovely place to get away from it all, we wandered from the hotel to the pub next door for drinks, and the cafe opposite for dinner, it was all high quality. We had a lovely breakfast at Millers, with both continental and cooked available. My only criticism would be of the bar, which was small and with a small selection of drinks, and the fact that our TV was not tuned in so we could not watch it when we went to bed. Definitely worth a visit though.

We have stayed in many hotels over the years but this one ranks very highly. If you want uniformity and must have internet and mobile phone access then please stay away because the Millers at the Anchor is going to drive you insane. It is Quirky (note the capital Q for exceptionally) and a complete delight as it assaults the senses with bric a brac, books and art everywhere. We spent 3 nights here in room 11 which is on the second floor facing the sea, sleeping under a canopied bed with views over the harbour and sea. The hotel does have internet, but it doesn't reach 2nd floor but the resident's library has access via either WiFi or a complimentary PC. The staff couldn't do too much to make our stay comfortable and full of memories and are a real asset to the hotel. We took advantage of the movie and a meal evening, 2 course meal and a movie in their own cinema room which seats you in comfortable settees or armchairs. We also had a lovely a la carte meal on the other night in the restaurant, very good food and dining experience.
Porlock Wier is a lovely quiet village, ideal for walking and getting away from it all. There is no sandy beach but it abounds with character and is a wonderful get away from the rat race venue.

Once again Secret Escapes has delivered an 'unusual' hotel in a beautiful location. This Hotel is one of the Millers group - stuffed to the gunnels with antiques at every turn including the bedroom.Whilst the decor is a little jaded it is in keeping with the overall style. The staff were lovely, the harbour view from the bedroom spectacular and the movie room an added bonus. If you are looking to stay somewhere a little 'different' I recommend you consider Millars at the Anchor Porlock Weir

Room Tip: The Harbour view is spectacular

Friends have advised that Porlock Weir was a great place to visit, not having been to this part of the country before we decided to try, and booked Millers for one night bed and breakfast plus evening meal. When we arrived the tide was out, exposing lots of stones yachts aground and not much else.
The hotel looked in need of renovation, and this did not give us a confident feeling. The flower baskets were full of mud and poor flowers due to over watering. There were better plants growing on the roof, in guttering, and behind drainpipes.
The inside was what one expected from the website, full of Martin Miller clutter, very tasteful and also eccentric.
The room we were given was No 10, up two flights of stairs, not the best of walks for a 73 year old with dodgy knees, but for one night give it a go. The room was small, the wardrobe was in the bathroom, and no shower, if you go avoid this room. The TV was fine but tuned in across the channel to Wales. In the room was a card giving costs for things you may not have brought with you, It may be useful to know condoms are available for £3.
The hotel was extremely busy for people who had dogs, so be warned if you do not like dogs, also the ante room before the main restaurant allowed dogs in with owners for meals.
The staff at the hotel are all from Europe, I think the Chef is the only English member of staff. There also seem to be a turn around of staff, and this does show in the service offered. The staff are very courteous/polite, and strive to do their best, but you could be kept waiting for service at times, as it was a lovely week end with a lot of customers possibly more staff were needed.
When the tide was high the atmosphere and tranquillity of the hotel changed, and the view improved 100%.
My wife and I were a bit apprehensive the evening dinner, based on our first impressions of the hotel. However the dining salon was well presented, and tables layed to impress.
The meal was excellent my wife had scallops, then sea bass, I had tomato soup followed by a rack of lamb, all dishes were well cooked and very tasty. It was interesting to note some diners were from Minehead so the place must have a good name for dining.
I love a good breakfast and this one was great.
This place is well worth a visit but perhaps one night may suit, just as it did for us.
Dunster Castle is nearby and again worth a visit.

Room Tip: Suggest paying the extra for a room at the front.
