“Wish we could have stayed MUCH longer!”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

My Husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Cafe' Porlock Weir. My Husband had found the Café by an Amazon local deal for the Fish Tasting menu.
Everything was just wonderful and we both feel like we have relaxed and found some peace in our crazy world.
There was a very warm Welcome from Sarah, we believe Andrew is the Chef. All of the staff that we met were lovely - smiling, chatty and a credit to their workplace.
The food was amazing - the Fish Tasting menu was quite honestly superb, everything tasted so fresh and you could really savour all of the dishes. A very worthwhile visit to the Café for this alone.
On our 2nd evening we had our meal from the set menu - a rib eye steak for him and slow cooked pork for me. Again everything was very tasty and cooked very well.
The breakfast was plentiful and again well cooked. Very nice bacon and sausages and all the trimmings. A really good start to the day if you are out and about.
We stayed in the Selworthy room - we had a view out to sea with two wonderfully comfy seats to while away the time just sea and people watching. The rest of the room was very spacious, very clean, super comfy bed and we could have stayed for much longer to be able to rest and feel relaxed.
We shall definitely book to stay again, probably during the winter months as a short break. We whole heartedly recommend the Cafe' Porlock - we are very glad to have found another Hotel not so far for us to travel, where we can relax and eat very well.

Room Tip: Selworthy has a huge bay window - good light and plenty of room.

Visited on an Amazon Local deal for the tasting menu. Food was superb and just what we needed after a very tiresome journey along the A39!
The lobster risotto was the best I have ever tasted and the plaice just wonderful. Staff friendly and welcoming. Did not stay overnight so cannot rate the rooms.
Would love to go again if I can brave the roads!

Only stopped in for take away at a time when there was nothng else open but looked like a nice place to eat (or stay). The staff I spoke to were very friendly and the Fish an Chips were excellent. Will definitely try the eat in part next time we are in the area or maybe even the rooms.

Like many others here, we visited The Cafe for the 5-course dinner offer from Travel Zoo. We didn't stay overnight so cannot comment on the accommodation. It was January, grey and rainy outside, and only a week after local floods had been widely publicised, but the atmosphere inside was warm. With few people 'in', just our table of 4 and one other couple, staffing seemed to be just the couple who run the place, he in the kitchen, she front of house. Both did a perfect job. The food was excellent and the service attentive but not intrusive and well matched to our needs. Despite the weather, the low turnout, the discounted meal, and the likelihood we will never visit Porlock Weir again, the effort was clearly still there and the standard very high.

We went to the Cafe to try the sea food tasting menu 16/7/2014. Nice location and well worth the braving the minor roads that access Porlock Weir.
We booked beforehand and had a super table with a view over the weir harbour. Overall the meal and service (nice perky staff) were a joy, each meal was accompanied by a creative variety of vegetable and flavors. The highlight was the Plaice which was outstanding in both texture and flavor. Really enjoyed the package and will return later in the year.

Reading various reviews I feel I have stayed at an entirely different property - yes the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was great however, it lacked atmosphere and the friendly welcome I was expecting - overall a bit disappointing.

We stayed here on the 25th to the 26th of June. We stayed in the Selworthy. The owner was amazing/friendly and the service was great.
The staff all you could ask for, everything was perfect and laid back.
I know 4/5 star hotels that could a lesson from here.
