“Relaxed in Porlock”
Reviewed 19 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We were looking for a relaxed and peaceful holiday cottage that was dog friendly and dog secure, we have a small Yorkie cross and a loon of a Labradoodle, Coachmans cottage proved to be the right choice. Wonderful woodland or coastal footpaths to the weir or into Porlock, dog friendly pubs if you turn right or left out of the drive. Hosts were welcoming and friendly with the main house having beautifully planted gardens, with some more exotic species of plants mixed among the usual British herbaceous flower beds.
Sea fishing at Porlock Weir beach (to the left of the fisherman's cottages) was very productive and fun.
One word of caution for pet owners, Exmoor is Tick central during the summer months, please make sure your hounds are up to date with there tick treatment!
We will be looking to book the cottage again next year.

Thoughtfully and comfortably furnished, Coachman's Cottage was a treat to stay in. Beautiful view over the marshes, and lots of walks from the front door. Incredibly efficient woodburning stove, and well equipped kitchen. I will return...!

“Peaceful retreat in the ideal location”

Coachman's Cottage has been a real home from home for us over the new year break. Despite the chilly weather (frost in Porlock!) we have been warm and cosy (the log burner puts out a ferocious amount of heat).

We have really appreciated the special extra touches provided by the owners, David and Nicky - a bottle of wine on arrival, oodles of books to browse and games to play, and the warmest bathroom we've ever come across (underfloor heating and heated towel rail, plus an unending supply of hot water for deep soaks in the bath).

Above and beyond the owners' friendly hospitality (we highly recommend a tour of the spectacular garden!) and the cottage itself, the location has been perfect for exploring Exmoor. We've walked and cycled straight from the cottage to Selworthy Beacon and Dunkery Beacon, respectively, and revisited all our favourite places (The Valley of Rocks, Brendon) and soaked up the space offered by this amazing national park.

Situated on the road between Porlock Weir and Porlock, it has been incredibly convenient to walk to the local pubs for something to eat each evening. The Top Ship in Porlock served the best rump steak my husband has had in a long time, and we highly recommend Friday night fish and chips at the Bottom Ship in Porlock Weir.

We recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat near to the coast, within walking distance of shops and restaurants, with activities galore on the doorstep.

“fantastic get away.”

Great little place, situated well within walking distance of all that perlock wier has to offer. If you are ever looking for a simply break away from city life then this is the place,, the owners are very nice people and the town folk are welcoming esp the butcher. food in the local pubs is fantastic, we preferd the royal oak as it was less cramped at busy times. there are plenty of places to see within a short car journy, beware of the huge hill. your see what i mean when you see it. I would recomend this to any one seeking a short get away. great house great area. I will recommend to all my friends and family.. all in all fantastic.
