Description: A 200 year old historic inn nestled in the heart of the wonderful Hampshire village of East Lavant, The Royal Oak restaurant, pub and rooms is renowned for its high quality food. Close to Goodwood Park and Chichester, The Royal Oak is very popular with those seeking a real taste of the British countryside in chic surroundings. Attractively appointed in keeping with the original old building but contemporary at the same time, The Royal Oak is comfortable and buzzy with warm service and an upbeat atmosphere. Offering English and modern European classics with a twist, The Royal Oaks menu includes both main meals and light bar snacks, all made using local, seasonal ingredients.

“First class food and service”

Had a truly excellent lunch at the Royal Oak after being recommended by friends. Menu is wide and varied, complemented by a very comprehensive wine list and daily specials. The food is not cheap, but also not expensive - this is not a PUB as other reviews seem to suggest...if you want PUB food..go to a Pub for scampi in the basket .. If you want something more upmarket then try the Royal Oak - you wont be dissapointed..the Service is also first class..we didnt wait between courses and the staff were always very attentive - i fail to understand some the the previous comments as in my opinion all the staff couldnt have been more helpful .
A great RESTAURANT - not a PUB - and well worth the drive into the country...

“excellent service”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

we were out with our two small dogs and wanted somewhere to eat that would accommodate them by chance we looked at our sat navigation and the Royal Oak came up near the location that we were we phoned them to see if they would accept dogs so that we could have lunch . They accommodated us immediately and we went in and were treated brilliantly firstly by Owen and the rest of the staff. Excellent food and memories . We live in Brighton but would definately go again.
well done and thank you very much .

“Not really worth the money - sorry”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

We met a couple of friends from overseas to catch up. This is a pleasant pub in a nice little village and a very nice place to have lunch. However, we paid £240 for the four of us (inc 2 bottles of wine), which I think was a little overpriced. We all had starters and mains and coffee. Two of us had scallops to start with (at something like £11.95 each) and was slightly dismayed to get a plate with TWO scallops on it. (It may have been three....from memory...but definitely no more than that and I am sure it was two). A little extortionate I think! The husbands had steak which neither of them were particularly impressed with. A nice little pub, but too pricey for what they are dishing up.

“Small, but very special”
Reviewed 23 December 2013

More of a restaurant, than a pub. The dishes and wine are of the highest quality. Parking is limited. So park further away, and walk to The Royal Oak Inn.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

The Royal Oak was our special place to eat however after two recent mediocre meals I doubt that we will return. In simple terms it was poor service and very overpriced. Party of four and one starter is wrong so diner has to wait. Main course of 2 x roast beef and 2 x roast turkey, meals absolutely average and barely warm. Left to keep going to the bar to order more drinks. Pudding menu offered but order still not taken after 20 minutes despite the there only being one other table occupied. Offered money off bill after commenting about service but that does not compensate for a poor experience. Happy to pay for good service and food but it is no longer at the Royal Oak.
