Museum okay but Abbey much better than expected. Whole village¿, except for 3 houses, owned by National Trust.

Not very big, but well laid out a fascinating. they had a photo show hung as well, which was nice. Part of the Lacock Abbey, and a stunning village stopover. National Trust property, and here's a plug to buy the membership and USE it throughout the UK.

We thought we knew something of the history of photography...turns out, we certainly did not! This was a fascinating museum-small enough to be inviting, w/great displays and information about Talbot and his work in both science and photography. This was complimented by an interesting small show of contemporary photographers.

The museum tells the story of Fox Talbot and how he became fascinated by science and photography in particular. There are different photo exhibitions on show so you don't always see the same thing when you visit. Well worth a visit.

The Fox Talbot Museum is housed in a building in the grounds of Lacock Abbey. The museum is very interesting and not huge, so older children would find it interesting too. The grounds of the abbey are beautiful and the abbey itself is worth a look round......you can spot where scenes from Harry Potter films were set. it is surprising how many rooms you can look round. It's like a Tardis! The properly is run by the National Trust so there are helpful guides on hand to answer questions.
A few minutes' walk from the abbey is the village of Lacock, where numerous period dramas have been filmed. It is very picturesque and has lots of small, individual shops selling local crafts, etc, and small tea shops.
You can easily spend a whole day at the abbey and the village, including lunch, which we had at the Red Lion Pub in the village which was delicious.
