My partner and I stayed for four nights in November 2011 and we will definitely return. After a long day's drive from Lincolnshire, our welcome at reception could not be faulted. We had a lovely room, with a massive bed. The bathroom didn't have a bath, but it wasn't a problem for us, and yes the grouting was in need of little attention, but overall we were really pleased with our room (122), which although was by the road (again, this didn't bother us), had amazing views over the loch.

We used the hotel as a base to travel up to the Isle of Skye and Fortwilliam, Oban etc., but we had dinner every night at the hotel, and we just could not fault the food. We sampled everything from Mussels, chicken stuffed with haggis, venison, salmon, scallops - all excellent! Breakfast was also very good - it was a buffet breakfast on the last morning, but every other morning, it was cooked to order and brought to our table (not something I have seen so much of recently).

The lounge was comfy for our wee dram after dinner and the bar was cosy (and the fires were lit, even though it was unseasonably warm!). In fact, a Hollywood actress and the film crew stayed there on one of the nights we were there and as far as I'm concerened, if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for us!

I loved the fact that we felt relaxed and comfortable staying at the Ballachulish, it wasn't pretentious, the staff were lovely, and I liked the fact that it has a certain character and charm.

We also played a round of golf at the Dragon's Tooth Golf Course, next door to the hotel - again very friendly staff and a lovely wee clubhouse!

We can't wait to return to this amazing spot in the highlands!

Room Tip: Most of the loch view rooms are in the newer part of the hotel, but the rooms in the older part, loo...

We stayed here for 1 night. From check in to check out the staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Our room was slightly faded but very clean and comfortable. The food was tasty, large portions, and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed our breakfast in the morning.
One thing to improve? Better coffee in the room.
Definitely will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a loch view on booking

Chose this hotel due to the location from Glasgow, straight road etc, and some kind reviews were read.
Saturday night was great, open fire drink in the bar, then came the food! So bad it's scary no skill no imagination and it's not cheap, the young lady that served us was great but that's all I can say. Sunday night got worse the service was so bad,( just don't ask for ice in your baileys) if looks could kill from the manageress!
I wish I could be more pleasant about the hotel but the staff are so under trained in hospitality it's frightening. Little more thought into the food and trained staff it could be a gem of a hotel for a quick break..And if only they would have the open fires on a Sunday in the lounge, so take a coat!

It is disappointing to read this review after the very good comments we have received througout October and November ( the latest posted on 14.11.11 ).
As a team we have discussed these comments and will continue to strive to achieve good reviews at all times.
The customer care lapse in our normal high standards is being taken on board with the F & Beverage team as is the lack of "Open Fire" on Sunday past.
We take all our comments constructively and out target is to be the Best Hotel in the area at all times.

My Wife and I stayed here for two nights in November 2011 and had a fantastic time. The room was very spacious, extremely clean, had plenty of natural light and had the most beautiful view onto the loch and mountains. Our breakfast was laid out as a buffet. A good old fry up or continental. The food was very well presented and tea/coffee and toast were brought to the table by the extremely polite staff. The evening meal was absolutely delicious, very tasty, piping hot and well presented (highly recommend the chicken breast stuffed with hagis). The staff members were very accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. They always had a smile and were very smart and courteous. The hotel itself is beautiful with roaring fires, a lovely large living room and with classy decor. Amazing views and so peaceful even though its smack at the side of a main road. 10 mins from Fort William and 2 mins from Ballachulish its ideal for easy access by car. Overall had a brilliant stay and recommended it to family and friends, will definately be making a return.

Ten years ago since our last stay here and we had one of the renovated rooms which had coloured LED lights in the ceiling very modern in such a traditional hotel. Good service and food . We stayed with a group of 20 on a car tour and they coped well with serving us all at the same time for our evening meals, not always an easy task. Good buffet traditional breakfast, plenty of choice. Good position for touring West coast.
