“Not too impressed”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Decided to finish off the most amazing time in the north of Scotland with a stop over in this hotel.

The room was fine, although there was a drainage problem and the bathroom had an unpleasant odour. Overall though, I would say that the hotel was fine, if a wee bit shoddy looking. This was a pity because it wasn't cheap!

The check-in and maintenance staff were very friendly, as were some of the restaurant staff. Unfortunately, not all shared this friendly disposition! A couple were, in fact, nothing short of abrupt.

Given that we had just spent four nights in the north of Scotland where MOST of the food we ate was nothing short of fantastic (other tripadvisor reviews to follow) the food on the this hotel was only just okay.

Many thank for your review Cazaroon. Such a disappointment to hear that your stay wasn't up to standard. Sorry. Should you be able to give us another chance some day we'll make sure we use your feedback to ensure things are much better next time. Also, we are currently working on refurbishment plans to give the Isles a facelift to improve comfort and appearance for all to enjoy.

Mixed business with pleasure. Had a meeting north of Spean Bridge so decided to stay night before with my wife, travelling from Broughty Ferry. Views beautiful and room spotlessly clean. Food and service first class. All this hotel needs is some money spent on it and it will be restored to its original glory. First visit in 2000 and will continue to come back. Love it!

How fantastic it is to read a brilliant review from someone that has been coming to stay for so many years foodysurprise. Having joined the Crieff Hydro family of hotels we are putting together plans to start injecting a bit of life back into the Isles over the coming months, so hopefully you’ll start to see a few changes next time you are with us.

Booked In to isles of glencoe as part of our weekend trip to family in Oban and this is a lovely location.Just love glencoe and always switch stays between here and the ballachullish. It does need a wee bit of tlc but it has charm.Check in was very welcoming as usual and room had the usual amazing view overlooking the loch. The only downside or bad point was one young female in the bar on the early evening after we booked in and we went to bar then tried to booked a table for dinner. We went for an 8.30 table but was told quite aggressively that it was fully booked but could have 6.30,as it was now 5.45 we declined then she said well you can have 8.15?why not offer that in the first place. Her manner was rude and my hubby was on the verge of saying just forget it.We got the impression she was called to her superior for a change of duty that did not go down to well with her.I joked and said to my hubby just our luck we will get her on table service tonight,lo and behold we did but on a different mood then but not the best at table service as she messed up an order at the table behind us.There was the middle age lady front of house who we have seen before and a new team of spanish males and female who were so good at customer service and engaged with the clientele.Would I return, you bet but would like all the staff to be trained in customer service as it is so important to make customers feel that they the first priority. Both myself and my husband are in a customer facing service and we are monitored on our service and whether we get a bonus or not.

We stayed for 4 nights on the dinner bed and breakfast spring rate, which was great value for money. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

The location on the Loch is just a beautiful way to way up each morning. Sun, mist, or rain still show the scenery in a fantastic light.

The food was really good and though the menu was slightly limited for the included options, we did eat something different every night and opted to have a meal out in Oban one evening as well. If there isn't a special deal for DBB I would suggest just playing it by ear as the meals work out a bit cheaper bought independently.

The Sauna was really nice, but the Jacuzzi is just an open bubble section in the pool, so not warmer water.

There is a Coop around the corner, which is great for snacks or little extras, and the shop in Glencoe village sells decent cheap ponchos if you get caught out in the rain!

Room Tip: A room with a view over the Loch is a must. We were to the right of the entrance and it could get...

Booked for 1 night on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast rate which seemed good enough value at £120 for a superior room with a Loch View, this had direct access outside to the grounds which was a bonus as we were travelling with our two doochies ( dogs ). The room and the view did not dissapoint as both were very good especially the view. If you book the DBB you get to choose off the main menu - however beware of the SUPPLEMENTS !. If you want anything that is even slightly more appealing perhaps the supplements are high. We ended up paying way over the odds. The food was very average for the price, breakfast was a help yourself buffet style and was actually very tasty. There is an alternative place to eat about a 5 minute walk away in Ballachulish village " The Laroch ". Excellent see reviews for more details. Would stay again but only on bed and breakfast and only on a special rate.

Room Tip: Rooms 311 - 316 Ground floor Loch View Superior Rooms with direct access outside well worth the mone...

Thank you for your review VMATHESONMACIVER. It’s excellent to hear that you found the patio doors in your room a great benefit with your dog’s staying too. We regularly have guests requesting these rooms for that exact reason so they can step straight out and go for walkies.

Stayed 2 nights and the views could not be better. Communal areas need updating as furnishings are soiled and worn. Bedroom was ok but noise travel from room above was unbelievable - people walking around sounded as if they were coming through the ceiling. Evening meals were ok but breakfast was very poor - Luke warm, unappetising food on cold plates. The tables also had no tableclothes on at breakfast time exposing dirty, chipped tables.

Room Tip: Top floor so you don't get noise from above

Ouch! It was quite a sore one reading your review berks5. It seems there were quite a few things amiss from your stay that has led to a less than impressive break for you so our apologies. Hopefully with our development plans for the future another visit would be somewhat different should you wish to give us another try.
