“Enjoyable meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014 via mobile

The Cross Keys Hotel at Kelso offers pleasant surroundings for a bar meal, served by helpful and friendly staff. The menu choice is however limited and somewhat overpriced for the content.

The food is well cooked and presented. If paying by card you need to take the bill to the hotel reception, as card facilities are not available within the restaurant.

Family of 10 of us stayed here over hogmanay and new years night. Great party at the hogmanay ball where the food and drinks were very well organised. Staff friendly, hardworking and couldn't do enough for everyone. Food was amazing. Hotel lovely and clean. Good central location.

Room Tip: Worth paying a bit more than the standard room price.

Came here for a meal with my family. Having been here many times before as I come from Kelso. When I went to book the table, I understood they were going to be busy, the gentleman on reception was quite abrupt when we told him what time we would like to eat at, he then went on and told us that the service would be slow because of how busy they were, which is understandable but you shouldn't really tell people that. Arriving for our meal we were seated in the lounge area where we were handed menu's, then taken through to the restaurant where it went downhill. Our starters came out, I had the brie which was very tasty others had soup, was never asked if everything was okay. The main courses came out, instead of the young girl saying excuse me for me to move so she could put my plate down she started talking to the other waitress, had the turkey and all the trimmings, I didn't think much of this, the turkey was seriously dry, others had beef which was said to have been good, 2 of the staff came to clear our table, the older lady asked if we would like desserts we said yes and the young girls muttered something under her breath as if she didn't want us to which is highly un-professional. Continued onto pudding I had creamed rice pudding and poached pear, I must admit the pear was delicious but the rice pudding was not very creamy. After desserts was the first time we were asked if everything was okay, after each course the guest should of been asked. Coming from a hotel and restaurant background I understand when it's busy sometimes you get stressed out but a guest should never be made to feel as though they are not wanted there!

My wife and I stayed here on a Saturday night. We found the hotel clean, the staff friendly and the restaurant food excellent.

The main reason we chose to stay here was the fact that we had had a meal there a few years before and really enjoyed it .We were not disappointed, even though the chef had changed the food was still great.

The room we has was clean but defiantly could do with updating. I recommend that you book dinner in with your package as the quality of food more than makes up for any shortfall in the rooms.

Stayed here for only one night. Got the Breakfast, dinner and room package. Good value and Staff are very friendly. Good meals with very good service and also good choice for breakfast. Hotel is in need of up dating but nice and clean. Good size rooms.. Free Internet and able to use in room with good easy access. Parking just out the front but only from around 5pm. Do however have to leave early or move car. Would recommend and stay again.

We stayed there whilst doing the Coast and castles cycle route in July, on the weekend of the civic festival. The hotel was rammed but it is a fantastic place. The rooms were lovely, we got a great deal which is exclusive for cyclists, they let us keep our bikes in the basement, and the dinner and breakfast were both of very high standard. There is really not a complaint I could make, we were extremly impressed. Just to cap it off, they also gave us some supplies on leaving, bananas, energy bars, etc.
