“The non pareil of hospitality....”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

Jeff and Jacqui Kelly are consumate hosts. Their attention to comfort and detail is second to none. We have been staying with them on and off for many years whenever we need a break from the same business here at Millgate House. Being in the same field we know how demanding it is running a successful guest house. Jaqui's food is inventive, beautifully presented, zingy and with no hint of"cleverness"...just good! She did earn a Michelin Star when running her restaurant in Edinburgh. Jeff is front of house which he is masterful at doing.
He has a wry sense of humour, a dry wit, an eye for every detail and can "blather" away knowledgeably on most subjects. Jeff loves candlelight...candles dotted everywhere for dinner.
When it comes to wine his expertise is terrific. He carefully matches food and wine with Jaqui's delicious dishes.Above all it is the warmth of these two and their passion for food, wine and hospitailty which makes it such a superb place to visit. Breakfast is taken looking out across a dew drenched lawn with morning sunlight jumping on the burn beyond.
I hesistate to recommend Edenwater House only because I fear it will be fully booked next time I call. Bliss!

My husband and I dined here on Saturday having heard great things about the food and we were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by hosts Jeff and Jacqui and shown to a comfortable and well-appointed drawing room for a pre-dinner drink. We were then shown to a small and intimate dining room (just four tables). The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the wine matching was excellent. Would recommend for a special occasion.

A little out-of-the-way gem. The building, fittings, gardens and view are all superb. Jeff and Jacqui are gracious, charming and gregarious hosts. And Jacqui's food - a fusion of culinary styles from across the world, is simply wonderful. We had Thai-glazed local beef which was magnificent. Jeff knows and loves his wine, too! Lots of care and attention to detail - my darling bride simply describes it as 'faultless!'

We chose this hotel because it purported to be a small quiet, but high-class establishment, but with outstanding food. This was all true. We were made to feel so very welcome, and having booked 3 of the hotel's four rooms, were given complete run of the place by our most welcoming hosts. Fine dining is important to us, and we were really impressed by the quality of the cooking - it would be really hard to better. The wine cellar is a real eye-opener, and you can have a tour if you like. The serene and quiet location and the beautiful garden appealed to us, and there was absolutely nothing about of 3 night stay, that was in any was disappointing - quite the opposite. It's a lovely and sophisticated backwater that you will find a joy if you are looking for a relaxing break with splendid food!

From the moment we arrived at Edenwater House we knew we would love it.
We got such a friendly greeting on our arrival, I felt as if we were old friends of Jeff & Jacqui. The house and gardens are a picture and the food is absolutely fabulous. It is exceptional value and puts some of the larger establishments in the area to shame.
I would certainly advise anyone who has exacting standards to visit Edenwater House and you will certainly want to stay again.

We have stayed more than once and hope to return. It is a haven of peace comfort and very good food. The owners are friendly and will either leave you in peace or chat at length if you wish and Jeff not merely chooses his wine well but will offer a choice with a well informed commentary if you are stuck?
