“Fantastic weekend break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

On a whim I asked my wife if she would like to go away for the bank holiday weekend.
After getting the ok I booked the 24th through to the 26th August 2013 at the Muirfad farmhouse B&B Palnure, D&G, Scotland.
And, I must say I am extremely glad I did, from the start we were made very welcome by Baz and Sue, we got there after a long tiring drive, to be welcomed with tea, scones and jam, and, the tastiest butter I have ever had.
The bedroom and private bathroom were absolutely spotless, plus tea making facilities and sat/tv.
The gardens are beautifully designed laid out and the wildlife is amazing.
There was a good choice for breakfast, including cereals, fresh fruit, porridge and cooked meals,(try the scrambled egg with smoked salmon on toast) SUPERB!!
The full breakfast, home cured bacon, home made sausage, and for the acquired taste the haggis is very, very good, (Baz very kindly gave the name of his supplier in Creetown) I called and got a couple on my way home.
Baz and Sue could not do enough for us in the way of information, i.e. restaurants, places of interest and such.
All in all the best weekend break we have ever had.

Room Tip: Not much to add really, all the rooms are spotless

A truly first class B&B where Bas and Sue made us feel so welcome. The room was very well furnished, bed comfy, spotless and even a chocolate on the bedside table. The breakfast was delicious with home cured bacon and sausage. The outlook onto the attractive garden just highlighted the attention that has gone into this B&B. Highly recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights last week after a few days further north in the Highlands. We'd stayed in another 4* rated B&B up there, but it couldn't compare to Muirfad Farmhouse. Bas and Sue were extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. The twin room was spacious and had lovely comfy beds and a fabulous outlook over the immaculate garden and over to the estuary. The shower room en-suite was absolutely spotless, with lots of little luxury touches we'd not found elsewhere, and the breakfast was scrumptious and filling. It was by far the best we'd had all week, and the service was truly exceptional. I couldn't fault it and will definitely be going back for a longer stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the twin en-suite; don't know about other rooms, but assume they are also exception...

We were given a very warm welcome from Bas and Sue and provided with tea and delicious warm scones on arrival. The twin room we stayed in was spotless, as was the rest of the house, and the beds were wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast was probably the best we have ever had in a B & B - including home cured bacon, homemade sausages (Bas used to be a butcher) , and award-winning black pudding imported from Lancashire. Sue also made a lovely fresh fruit salad which we really enjoyed . We stayed for two nights and Bas and Sue made it feel like a home from home. It was obvious how much they enjoyed what they did, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also the B & B is ideally placed to explore the Dumfries and Galloway area and Bas and Sue were helpful in suggesting places to see. Would recommend 100 % and will definitely stay there again.

Right from the first welcome you just knew that everything was going to be perfect. Accommodation and facilities were first class, food excellent and Basil and Sue (Sybil) were always about if you needed advise on outings etc. We stayed for 7 nights and couldn't find anything to criticise at all. Would certainly recommend Muirfad to anyone going into that region as it is fairly central to most of the interesting areas of Dumfries and Galloway. Our only criticism of our trip was nothing to do with Muirfad but the generally poor signage to places of interest. Once you turned off the main road you lost all track of where you were heading and how far away it was.

Very easy to find this farmhouse as it is visible from the main road, but not at all noisy. Very warm welcome and delightful room, with beautiful views over the bay. Very comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Nice room to sit in downstairs too. The Scottish breakfast was a work of art and delicious. Very well situated for touring the centre of Dumfries & Galloway: I can't recommend Muirfad highly enough.
