I'm a local and must admit to having a soft spot for the Beltie in Wigtown. There's always delightful home baking on offer plus a good selection of teas and coffees - I recommend the Russian Caravan tea. The restaurant area is a light and airy place with loads of local art for sale. Andrew and Nick are lovely hosts and always make you welcome. In the summer there is a lovely garden at the back complete with chickens. Oh and they sell books as well.

We visited Beltie Books by chance but then went back and back during our stay in Galloway and Dumfries. Andrew is very welcoming and friendly, the soups delicious and a good variety of teas served beautifully. A must-go...and go...sort of place. Wish I lived nearer!!

This is a great place to grab a bite of lunch or a luscious cake and coffee. The cafe opens up out of the bookshop and is a light modern space with huge patio doors that open up onto the garden and outdoor seating area. I had a bowl of velvety butter-nut squash soup which came with crusty bread and butter, a scrummy piece of cake and an excellent americano coffee (I'm a coffee snob) and all at a very reasonable price. My friend had a home made pavlova which was stuffed with fruit. well worth a visit.
